I edited an episode of GOOD EATS called DEEP SPACE SLIME, which was a Halloween episode about jello. They made "panna cotta brain", (panna cotta poured into a brain mold). Last Christmas I sent bk a mold and recipe for it in case he felt inspired to make it for a future BRAIN cast party.

Besides, would we have cafeterias today if there was no Jell-O (well, and Swedish meatballs.... but not together)?

Have you seen my MIL's Jello?

Can can anyone screw up Jello? Add water, stir, wait.

der Brucer

It is mind boggling, yet so many people do screw it up.

Given what we know of your eating habits, I seriously doubt there'd have been much food bits left for "show-and-tell" in science class.

Well... Since my mom sometimes bought some "fancy" containers, there were times when it was virtually impossible to get every little bit of Jell-O, fruit and/or sugar syrup out of them.  Oh, and some had had pudding in them, so...

OHH!!!!

So....

Jell-O was usually the dessert of choice when my Mom would prepare our school lunches when my brothers and I were in elementary school.  She would prepare individual cups for each of us, and she was always buying new Tupperware containers because my brothers and I had a tendency to lose them or accidentally throw them in the trash at school.  -This was long before Jell-O started making their own individual, portable and disposable cups.  So...

It was "Clean Up The Classroom Day" at Gales Ferry Elementary.  My fourth grade teacher, Mr. Sharack, assigned groups of students a different area of the classroom to clean, and towards the end of the day, we all cleaned out the "cubby holes" and coat closet.  There were cubby holes for each of us along the floor, and there were also some "overflow" cubby holes above the coat racks.  Since Mr. Sharack was the tallest one in the classroom, he "volunteered" to clean out the the overflow spaces...

"What's in this paper bag?... Is this your plastic container?"
-Yes.
"And this one too?"
-Yes.
"Oh.. what is this back here?..."
-Oh, that must be mine too...

By the time he was done, I believe I had re-collected at least 15 containers.  And not all of them had contained Jell-O.  Some had contained peaches, canned figs, fruit cocktail... And there were some (metal) spoons too.  Thankfully, I was just able to take all of them home, and not open them all of them there as part of our science class.

There used to be some special way to make Jell=O with pineapple, but I don't remember what it was.

Thank God!

Use canned pineapple as noted above, and/or bring the pineapple juice to a boil and let it cool before using it as part of the liquid.

I forget the exact proportion, but if you use just a fraction of the water normally used when making Jell-O, then beat the mixture with a mixer - a mixer with a really good and strong motor - then you can make marshmallows.

Our group USNAOut is making a Documentary about gay grads of the United States Naval Academy - here is the trailer

OUT OF ANNAPOLIS

der Brucer

I have turned down repeated requests for interviews

Did you leave before they found out?

Are you kidding? If they found out, I would have been  tossed out of the Academy.

If they found out anytime during my 10 years of Commissioned service, I would have been thrown out.

If they found out during the two years I worked for Honeywell, I would have lost my job.

If they found out during the 20 years I worked for Hughes, I would have lost my job. (Maybe, in the last few years I could have gotten away with it). I did take Woody to my retirement party, so some people should have been suspicious.

The key to staying in the closet during the later years was the need to maintain a security clearance. Even after the government no longer automatically denied clearances to homosexuals, if a long timer came out, he still lost his clearance based on the fact that he had lied about his sexual "tendencies" during the initial screening process.

I never told my wife, and didn't tell my Father until after I retired.

My living a dual life of deception (which later on included separate identities) is one of the reasons I don't want to do the interview, nor write a Bio for the USNA OUT web site. I don't want to be a model of "if you're clever and disingenuous, you can get away with it".

I did the long jog, I've written about four pages (I'll probably do one or two more, max - I'm just a half-page from the end of a chapter).  My two-thirty meeting is now at three-thirty.

I watched the last four episodes I had remaining in the MY THREE SONS set. The last one turned out to be the best one. Tim Considine took a summer job in a forest ranger tower. Just he and this hunky but uncommunicative ranger (friend of his dad's) for the summer. Tim tried to turn basically a drudge job into something exciting thus giving him a great showcase for lots of emotions and activity.

Ah, that hunky ranger was none other then William Boyett who went on to play Sgt. McDonald on Adam-12. He shows up in a LOT of shows, particularly HIGHWAY PATROL.

Sadly he passed away in 2004. His son lives in Portland, as I recall.

I like jello. Especially red (any flavor) with fruit cocktail or orange with shaved carrots.  At school we used to have lime with pears - looked ugly but tasted good.   I think they make jello around Sioux City somewhere, at least the gelatin that they add the flavor to

Well, I'm on my way to a birthday get together. Since it's for a very close friend of Paul's I'm assuming he will be there.  I haven't seen him since August or September and he hasn't called.  All because I didn't vote for Obama.  Good grief. I should say good riddance. If he can't accept that I don't agree with him on everything, I don't need him in my life.

Mmmm, mmmm.

Olive Relish

1 pkg Lime Jell-O
1 pint hot water
3 tbsp. vinegar
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 cup sliced stuffed olives
1/2 cup sliced sweet pickles
1/4 cup diced celery, if desired

Dissolve Jell-O in hot water. Add vinegar and salt. Chill. When slightly thickened, add remaining ingredients. Turn into small individual molds. Chill until firm. Unmold. Serve with fish or meat. Makes 12 molds.
