Oy! Such a day I've had. The weird jobs keep rolling in and I've spent the day working on a "Broadway Tenors" concert chart that needs to be adapted from a small Broadway band to somethng playable by a symphony orchestra "but we have no money so keep it simple." And then the phone rings with another job for Houston. So much for the glamorous life.

FRIGID TEMPERATURES STARTLE THE SOUTH

Quote

...
Freezing temperatures threatened to kill picturesque Spanish moss hanging from Gulf Coast trees. Wind and choppy seas frustrated efforts to free an endangered right whale tangled in fishing gear off the Southeastern coast. And it was too cold to bet on dogs in West Virginia: A greyhound track shut down because of a predicted high of 7 degrees
...

At least the dogs got a day off.

Wasn't that the original lyric for "A Room Without Windows"?

I am laughing. I have seen Jello pretzel salad, but I don't think I would willingly eat it.

I didn't!

While getting the mail, I noticed one of my neighhbors taking a picture of the lemons on the tree against a bright blue sky.  Yes, she is sending back to folks in Cleveland.  It's the time of year where we can do that.  About the only time of year we can do that.

I think DR Sandra might give it a shot though.

Dare ya!

Strawberry Pretzel Jello Salad

12 servings (approximately)

2                cups crushed pretzels
3/4             cup melted butter
3                tablespoons sugar
1 (8 oz)      package cream cheese
1                cup sugar
8                ounces Cool Whip (large)
1 (6 oz)      strawberry Jell-o gelatin dessert
2                cups boiling water
2 (10oz)     packages frozen strawberries, thawed

1.  Mix pretzels, butter, sugar and pat into 9 x 13 pan.
Bake at 375 degrees for 8 minutes; cool.

2.  Mix sugar and cream cheese, then add Cool Whip.  Spread over crust and put in refrigerator.
Combine strawberry jello, water and strawberries; chill until jello is partially jelled.
     Pour over cream cheese.
     Refrigerate until firm.

Mmmm, mmmm.

Olive Relish

1 pkg Lime Jell-O
1 pint hot water
3 tbsp. vinegar
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 cup sliced stuffed olives
1/2 cup sliced sweet pickles
1/4 cup diced celery, if desired

Dissolve Jell-O in hot water. Add vinegar and salt. Chill. When slightly thickened, add remaining ingredients. Turn into small individual molds. Chill until firm. Unmold. Serve with fish or meat. Makes 12 molds.

I had to double check it wasn't DR Sandra posting this strange concoction.  ;D

For DR Sandra do you use gelatin free jello?

Anyhoo...

We did indeed end up at Golden Corral for lunch today after my Mom's cardiotherapy session.  We all "behaved" for the most part, and more than got our fill of the various buffets for the true bargain price of $6.59.  After lunch, I basically took my parents on a "Best of Richmond" sight-seeing trip. We drove here, we drove there.  I showed them where some of the "cool shops" were located.  I pointed out some places where they could and should take the grandkids.  And I finally "convinced" my Dad that if he just kept on driving down one particular street he would find that it just loops around to another familiar neighborhood - no more fear of getting lost.

Alas, I didn't have any Jell-O at Golden Corral either.  ;)

Nope. Jello has gelatin in it.

I posted that before reading the other references to DR Sandra. :)

I was never a fan of Cool Whip, except whipped into blackcherry jello.

I think they make jello around Sioux City somewhere, at least the gelatin that they add the flavor to

Well, gelatin plants are usually near slaughter houses, so....

I wonder if our vegitarian friends know the following contain meat by-products:

Jello
Powdered Milk (not just the dairy part)
Merinque
Taffy
Marshallow
Fondant (use in cake decorating)

Our group USNAOut is making a Documentary about gay grads of the United States Naval Academy - here is the trailer

OUT OF ANNAPOLIS

der Brucer

I have turned down repeated requests for interviews

Did you leave before they found out?

Are you kidding? If they found out, I would have been  tossed out of the Academy.

If they found out anytime during my 10 years of Commissioned service, I would have been thrown out.

If they found out during the two years I worked for Honeywell, I would have lost my job.

If they found out during the 20 years I worked for Hughes, I would have lost my job. (Maybe, in the last few years I could have gotten away with it). I did take Woody to my retirement party, so some people should have been suspicious.

The key to staying in the closet during the later years was the need to maintain a security clearance. Even after the government no longer automatically denied clearances to homosexuals, if a long timer came out, he still lost his clearance based on the fact that he had lied about his sexual "tendencies" during the initial screening process.

I never told my wife, and didn't tell my Father until after I retired.

My living a dual life of deception (which later on included separate identities) is one of the reasons I don't want to do the interview, nor write a Bio for the USNA OUT web site. I don't want to be a model of "if you're clever and disingenuous, you can get away with it".

der Brucer

Reading this exhausted me.  I had no idea it went on for so long.  I can understand why you don't want to be interviewed.

I find it amazing if your wife never found out in all the years after.

The security issue boggles my mind.  It has always seemed to me the need to have a "dual" identity makes an employer a greater risk to be blackmailed to give up information.

Jello-yes
Marshmallows-yes
Powdered milk-not in the list of ingredients I see
Meringue & Taffy-where?
Fondant-Does it depend how it is made?

Sometimes I don't really want to know ;)

We actually have some in the fridge, the last time I tried it it tasted awful - I suppose I should try it again perhaps now it would have no taste at all and be soothing
