The first two hours were spent on music and lyrics.  We actually spent an hour on the opening number - we cut a verse out and rearranged some of the song, then worked on the vamps and a dance break and it's much more focused and fun now - I don't think Adryan has seen me at work before in this regard and I think she found it fascinating.  I have worked with Shelly so he's used to my methods and he's very quick.  We worked on the second song and did the same sort of things, doing a major revision of the end of it.  We started on a third song but the author arrived.  He and his writing partner did a whole new outline of the show based on my notes.  I wish they hadn't, as they made some decisions that should have been chatted about first, but we addressed each of them and came up with some good solutions.  There are going to be a bunch of new numbers written from scratch and we'll do what we did today to the handful of other numbers that will stay.  I do love the process of fixing songs that aren't quite landing, and also focusing book problems.

As to well-compensated, I'm afraid not.  I made a promise to Adryan over a year ago that if she wanted me to direct a staged reading for her that I'd do it for free.  And that, of course, is how this started out.  But I have a deal that I will receive money when and if the show is financed.  They know my time will be what I need it to be and other than the work sessions with the songwriters, the rest can be done via e-mail.

there is a new tumbleweed sculpture installed in town.

And I hope we shall have a picture of it posted here before too much time has passed.     :)

Looks like something from Joan Crawford's trash can.

Got a nice package from Jrand that included the OSS movie.  Unfortunately, my player doesn't seem to want to play it.  I'll try it in the bedroom player later tonight.

I'm doing battle with the first edge of a cold of some sort.  It isn't in my lungs (thankfully) but it's nagging at my back.

It's high time I wussburgered.

(But I still managed to poach a couple of chicken breasts, which I sauced with mushrooms, and stir up a risotto with zucchini.  Der B gets so spoiled with my dinners for him.   :)  It was only after din-din that I let him know about my DVD-BD wishlist.    ;D)

Back from the movie and dinner with my mom.  LAST CHANCE HARVEY is a sweet story.  DR Elmore, Eileen Atkins plays Emma Thompson's mother.

No reactions to the Oscar nominations??     :)

I was kind of surprised that Clint was not nominated in the best actor category, but I was thrilled that my friend Richard King was nominated for his sound design for THE DARK KNIGHT.

I think that idiot Ann Colter is on Dr Phil's show today. If no one gave that horror the time of day, perhaps she'd fade into oblivion.

As long as she remains a best-selling, provokative  author she'll stay front and center.

der Brucer

She's #2 on NYT Hardcover nonfiction this week

It's even sadder that many people are buying into her bilge.

Not everyone...at least around these parts.  Our library system has 10 brand new copies of her latest book and only 26 on-line requests.  That's not a blockbuster, by anyone's standards.

My friend Kevin's on UGLY BETTY tonight as a cardiac specialist!

I thought about you, DR Elmore, when I saw him on the screen. He did a wonderful job!

I got three more episode of THE INVADERS watched, but I've barely made a dent in these 7 discs' worth of episodes.

Ted Knight was the most recognizable face in one of the episodes. In others, Don Gordon, Barbara Barrie, and Richard Anderson were among the guest stars.

Good Evening!

I had a nice walk around the campus of VCU, my alma mater.  I took some pretty cool pictures.  And then I headed over to Steve's for a bit where I ended up cooking dinner, and then we watched "Ugly Betty" and "Grey's Anatomy".  All in all, a lovely afternoon and evening.

Then I watched the first of the BONES episodes with Booth and Brennan as a knife-throwing circus act. Very funny show with a pretty good case to solve as well.

Well, I guess this answers the question I had...

The Famous Fingers Were Live, But Their Sound Was Recorded

Quote
It was not precisely lip-synching, but pretty close.

The somber, elegiac tones before President Obama’s oath of office at the inauguration on Tuesday came from the instruments of Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman and two colleagues. But what the millions on the Mall and watching on television heard was in fact a recording, made two days earlier by the quartet and matched tone for tone by the musicians playing along.

Just got off the phone with Adam, guess my brother had a mild heart attack. With the stent in, he should recover quite well and will hopefully go home tomorrow

Worm Infects Millions of Computers Worldwide

Quote
A new digital plague has hit the Internet, infecting millions of personal and business computers in what seems to be the first step of a multistage attack. The world’s leading computer security experts do not yet know who programmed the infection, or what the next stage will be.

In recent weeks a worm, a malicious software program, has swept through corporate, educational and public computer networks around the world. Known as Conficker or Downadup, it is spread by a recently discovered Microsoft Windows vulnerability, by guessing network passwords and by hand-carried consumer gadgets like USB keys.
