Well, I'm off to start a book I'm pretty sure I first heard about here--THE RED LEATHER DIARY.  I hope it's as good as what I've been hearing about it.

Are you sure you didn't hear about the book on Twitter?

And you can also check it out here:  http://www.redleatherdiary.com

*It's actually very "cool" book, and a very good read.  DRs Jane and Ginny et all may find the "premise" quite fascinating.

D'oh!  Yep, it was on Twitter.  And yes, I think a lot of people here might like this book.  I'm enjoying it much, especially because of the early '30s New York City setting.

I thought the proper way to address the imponderables was to tip your hat and say, "Hellloooooooo, Imponderables!"

Isn't that the THREEPENNY OPERA "Pimp's Ballade"?

In any case...

It's back to work for me for a few hours this morning.  And tomorrow.  And the day after that.  And so on and so forth.

The perfect way to ease back into the swing of things, although, I think I've already swung.  Or something like that.

Gray today and a 50% chance of rain. We'll see if it happens. It's fairly mild outisde, though. Nice for late January.

Thank you, DR der Brucer, for reminding it it was Brandon Mroz who did that wonderful program of jumps with supreme confidence. Not a bobble in sight in his program. Of course, he had very little to lose and no reason for great nerves. His first year in the senior nationals, he has nothing but time on his side. Jeremy Abbott's nerves were getting the best of him, but hopefully he'll have them more under control at the worlds in March.

Every skater ever interviewed about the subject has said that winning a national title is far more nerve-wracking than winning at worlds. I guess skating in front of your countrymen makes it more tension-filled. Of course, the worlds are in LA this year, so the skaters will STILL be skating in front of their countrymen.

I'm really looking forward to THE CLOSER tonight. I guess I'm glad that they split last season up so we could have a few more episodes until the next season starts this summer, and it should give the new show TRUST ME a great lead-in audience. I'm really not interested in getting involved in another series right now, especially with HEROES coming back and MEDIUM's premiere just a week away.

As I mentioned last night, I'll be hunkering down with the second FRIDAY THE 13th this afternoon and evening (must make a run to the post office after I get in from lunch). There are a few bonus features on the disc. Not sure if there's a commentary or not (the first one had one), but there were a few listed bonus items on the press release.

CW seems to have mostly repeats this week so no Gossip Girl or One Tree Hill tonight.

I watched the SAGs last night.

Yes, Sanchez was taken away in a helicopter when the season was interrupted early last fall. We'll see the rest of that story tonight and Brenda's parents are also slated to be on the show tonight.

Are CASABLANCA and THE THIRD MAN considered to be spy movies?

If so, they get my vote.

As far as funny spy movies are concerned, I like TOP SECRET!

Didja all know that there's another THE AMAZING RACE scheduled this season starting on Feb 15?  It's about time they went back to twice a year with this show.

Warning--that webpage takes forever to load!

Spy movies I love:

THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD
All James Bond movies with Sean Connery
THE LADY VANISHES
NOTORIOUS
TORN CURTAIN
NORTH BY NORTHWEST
SPY GAME (not great but great fun in spots)

on TV - GET SMART (first two seasons, never equaled)
