Well, if it saves some money, it's a good idea; most business would not be inconvenienced and regular folks can just pretend it's frontier days. (However, I would need to see a study to evaluate whether or not the weekend pile-up would create a Monday delivery problem.)

What I'd read said that they might consider dropping a light day...like Tuesday. It would not be a good idea to have two days in a row without mail delivery. $:-\$

DH Richard cleared the 6+ inches of snow from our driveway, then the two of us worked this afternoon to clear the 1" of ice. We were only able to do about half of the driveway - he chopped and we both shoveled. That's hard work. I fixed us a nice dinner of roast pork, noodles, broccoli, applesauce.

We've had a "practice" day today - no mail delivery to our house. Of course, it may have had something to do with our driveway resembling a bobsled run - well, the top half, anyway.

Oh...

As I walked from 43rd to 59th earlier this afternoon, I stopped in front of what used to be "Westside Cottage". I actually almost passed the place - twice. What was "advertised" as a remodel, turned out to be much more:

They did have a menu posted outside, and even though the place is supposedly run by the same people who were in charge of Westside Cottage, Jing's menu is greatly whittled down, and the prices are also a little higher. -And from I understand, the portions are smaller now too. Ah, well... $:-\$

*I was sort of surprised that I hadn't noticed Jing sooner - or that I hadn't walked that stretch of Ninth Avenue in a while. But now I'm guessing that I probably did pass Jing already, but just didn't realize that that was where Westside Cottage used to be.

**And there are now four hummus places within block of each other too.

DR td - thanks for sharing your home improvement photos. I love the blue carpet - it would go nicely in our house.

Seeing all the furniture piled up reminds me of the year I asked to have the kitchen painted as my Christmas present. DH Richard threw in new vinyl flooring, too, and the Gallagher crew (dad and 3 sons) started on Dec. 14 by moving the stove into the family room. They were just finishing up the flooring when we left to pick up Grandma Palmer for church on Christmas Eve. Needless to say, we hosted no holiday gatherings that year and ate store-bought Christmas cookies. But, I love the result even after almost 10 years.

Many happy years of enjoyment to you and "the supervisor."

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes to my DH. He arrived safely and picked up his rental car, which turned out to be a Hummer instead of a regular car. Since there is so much snow, he doesn't mind, but he is a bit embarassed to be driving it around, thinking people are looking at him like he's an a**hole for wasting fuel.

The most exciting event of my day was seeing two brown headed nuthatches. We have lots of black and white ones, but this was the first time I'd ever seen the brown-headed version, so I looked it up and apparently they hang together as pairs. It also said that they are unique in that they use tools...they will use a stick or a piece of bark to pry up loose bark and look for bugs. They will even carry their pry bar with them from tree to tree.

Well it was my understanding that Tuesday was mainly used to deliver JUNK or 4th class mail, with a bit of the first class thrown in.....

We did have mail delivery today.....even before I had my driveway cleaned off.....

I have heard of the Polanski documentary, but my interest in the case is very low. At the time it seemed to be wrong headed judicial decision, but the crime was a sensational one....I don't know.

I want to thank DR ELMORE for recommending Mr Vincent Spinetti's very funny memoir. I did laugh out loud several times, and it was fun to read about his experiences among the hoi polloi.

I also found some fascination in the fact that his life partner was Graham Curnow, the young man who starred in HORRORS OF THE BLACK MUSEUM, and in fact turned into a raving monster at the end of the film.....
