This was on Anderson Cooper's show last night.

The same show as Ted "I am a heterosexual with complications" Haggard.

It was fun watching Gloria's Little Boy waltzing around the "gay orientation" issue.

Good Afternoon!

I'm back from the New - though not necessarily improved - Jersey.

As we were pulling into the CostCo parking lot, we noticed that it was a very full parking lot.  LOTS O' PEOPLE!!  -Which was not all that surprising since it was a Friday, and a Friday before the Superbowl, but still...  We drove through the parking lot just to see how potentially crazy it would be, and once we found ourselves having to park at the "end" of the parking lot, we just headed over to Target instead. -And the Target was surprisingly empty.  So, I guess it all worked out for the better.

Chris' son, Henry, ended up staying at home today with his sitter, but I did get a chance to spend a couple of minutes with him before we headed out to Hackensack.  He really is one of the nicest and sweetest kids I've ever met.  He's currently "recovering" from what his parents call "The Amish Haircut", which just made him that more adorable today. ;)

On this day in Theatre History...

SUNRISE AT CAMPOBELLO starring Ralph Bellamy opened at the Cort Theatre in 1958.  James Earl Jones was also a member of the cast, making his Broadway debut.

Also on this day in 1969 (according to my Futurama calendar), the Beatles made their last public appearance.  I know not where.

Good morning!  Thanks to one and all for the broken legs last evening.  We had a relatively smooth preview last evening for an audience of about twenty five people.  Considering the small number of audience members, I was very suprised by the large number of laughs we received.   It was also the first time I can remember getting a standing ovation from a preview audience; although in all honesty, I believe the standing "O" was more for our leading lady's tour de force than for the entire cast.

Congrats on the good preview, DR TCB!

I'm saving my "Break a Leg" for your opening night--is that tonight?

Yes, sir, it is.

And he was on Oprah earlier this week...

I tried to watch it, him, but he just gave me a headache.  And then when his wife came on, well...  But it was nice to see Oprah really trying to get him to ANSWER THE QUESTION!

Beatles last public appearance

Perhaps the most influential musical group of all time, the Beatles make their last public performance on this day in 1969, giving an impromptu concert on the roof of their London recording studio. Neighbors complained about noise, and police broke up the concert. John Lennon closed the performance announcing, "I'd like to say thank you very much on behalf of the group and myself and I hope we passed the audition." In April 1970, Paul McCartney formally announced the group's breakup.

DR TCB and any other DRs who may be inquiring about NYC hotels - Here's a link to NewYorkology.com's latest listing of cheap hotel rooms.  What's really "cool" about this listing is that a lot of the "cheap" room are in usually-far-from-cheap hotels.

NY's average hotel rate falls to $192; deals from $49

Glorious news about the audience reaction, TCB!  The size of a preview audience likely reflects the marketing, but the reaction of the audience that is there obviously reflects well on the play and performances.

What he said :)

As for the Friday Media Check...

Just more radio: WQXR.

Although, I did give another listen to In the Heights during my bus ride back from Atlantic City Sunday night.

Did the long jog on this gloriously glorious and gorgeous day, and have written almost three pages.  I'll finish the third page and maybe do a fourth, then I'll take a break and do a couple more pages later this afternoon.  By Sunday I will be a little over 200 manuscript pages into the book and from there it'll be another seventy pages or so.

Thank you, DR Elmore.

Comedy is such a personal thing. What makes one howl leaves another stone-faced. Nice to read another side. The subject matter doesn't really interest me, so if I ever see it (doubtful), it would be on a pay cable channel.

This would be a great topic someday:  what movie did you personally think was the cat's pajamas but was otherwise met with disdain by just about everyone else?

 ;D

I think my list would be to long to post.

We'd kill for some fog and rain.  We're 60% below the amount of rainfall we should have and desperately NEED in order to avoid the worst drought on record.

I had food poisoning once during my first year of retirement. I'm thinking I ate some bad mushrooms. At any rate, not only was I weak and dizzy for three or four days, but I really had no appetite for any food at all. I must have lost five pounds until I got my appetite back.

I watched this week's LAW & ORDER while I cooked and ate lunch. I love the show and have loved it for years, but this has to be one of the lamest episodes in the history of the show. The suspects and motive were SO obvious (and LAW & ORDER is a show that can be so twisty that it continually fools you until its denouement.) I kept thinking that something else was going to happen because what I had in my head was such an obvious way to go. Nope, they followed the plot like a connect-the-dots puzzle right down the line.

Very disappointing.

I then finished the remaining seven episodes of DAVE'S WORLD that I had left on disc 3. Some nice guest stars: Stella Stevens, Audrey Meadows, John Ritter, and another couple of appearances by Florence Henderson, but the show is just too overplayed and obvious for me. I can see why the show went downhill after this second season if they continued along this route (I hope I never have to find out). Not a subtle bone in its body.

But it does look like I'll get to watch GOODBYE, MR. CHIPS tonight.

I'm not surprised it looks soft. As I recall from seeing it in the theaters, it's always looked that way. But, maybe I've just watched the laserdisc one too many times.

I don't know why you fret so much over a lame plot about the gay characters when the straight ones are so much more psychotic and fascinating! :D

I hate it that there are no smileys on the reply form.

I thought the 30-something characters in "VCB" actually talked liked 30-somethings.  It was a nice return to a more "classic" Woody Allen comedy.  -And I will admit to be a bit hesitant about seeing the movie initially since I did not want to be disappointed again, but I'm glad I went, and glad I saw it.
