Well, you've read the notes, the notes were rainy, and now it is time for you to post until the rainy cows come home.

We were on "urgent" notice a couple of hours ago.  We are now downgraded to "alert". the knowledge that fires are so close is even scarier at night.  Colin and I went through this 25 years ago - in some ways it makes it worse.

Thank you for your thoughts DRs.  There will be no sleep tonight.

It is warm here, meaning that all of the snow has turned the ground to MUD.

Saturday morning greetings!  Today Richard and I are going to a fundraiser for the local historical society (he's on the board).  It's an antique appraisal event - each ticket holder can take one item for the expert to evaluate.  We're taking Richard's great great grandfather's Civil War diary and a piece of Rookwood pottery.

Thank you friends.

Colin is trying to have a couple of hours sleep while I am being alert!  We have excellent communication systems and updates available here - as long as we have power!

They are estimating at least 40 deaths today here as a result of fires.

DR Ben - can you post a link to the theater where Anthony will be appearing in Wisconsin?  We might have occasion to be at Richard's seminary during the run.

TOD - September 14, 2008, when Hurricane Ike paid a visit to the Ohio Valley.  We expect snowstorms, tornados, flooding from time to time, but hurricane force winds and the ensuing damage were totally unexpected.  Funny thing, the gardening expert I saw on TV last week said the damage from last week's ice storm would have been worse if the trees hadn't lost so many branches in the hurricane.

Dear Tom, I'm also reading the articles in the NY Times about the heat and fires. Our thoughts are with you dear friends.

It is a tragedy for the wildlife here as well.   Our priority with the garden is making sure there is water available for the birds.
