And I believe I received one of the nicest compliments I've ever received today.  An actress came up to me just as the lunch was ending...

"I just wanted to Thank You for being so supportive of us.  I don't sing, but you make me want to sing because I know you'll take care of me."

I was truly touched. :)

That was truly beautiful to read DR Jose.

And I was tempted to say about your being touched.  But NO.

My soup turned out beautifully. When it cools, I'll put into into containers and freeze half of it. I'm on my second bowl now.

DR tomovoz, can't you rent a U-haul truck and pack up what you want to save for a fast escape? I've really got my fingers crossed for you and Colin.  Here are some vibes that you all will be safe:

Finished watching a very interesting French motion picture from France from the Deneuve box set, which, thus far, has turned out to be a total winner.

I'm way past being "touched".  It's more like "pawed" and "manhandled" at this point in my life. ;)

DR elmore - Maybe I missed it earlier due to the slow internet connection here at the hotel...

Did you make it City Center this weekend to see Music In The Air?

I really am sort of bummed that I missed it.  I have a bunch of friends in the ensemble, and for a couple of them, it was their New York City debut. *And I was the one who told them to get their butts down to the open call since we were having such a slow day.

I may be heading back there again tonight.  And, if so, then I can get my "frickle" - fried pickle - fix taken care of. ;)

To the NYC area DR's - or any DR who may know otherwise...

I've been browsing my CD collection over the past couple of weeks, and I've realized that I have a whole bunch of CDs that deserve a "better home".  There are a slew that I bought just for "reference purposes" when I was doing more Classical accompanying, and I know that I have not listened to them in years(!).  Is there a place in NYC that buys CDs?  I'm not looking to make a profit or anything like that.  I just want to free up some shelf space and get rid of some "clutter".  I'd say I'd have at least 150-200 that I know I could easily part with at this time.

*I know I could do the e-Bay and Craigslist thing, but I rather take a whole box of them someplace and drop them off, rather than have to list everything on a website.

If you want to drag them down to Academy, they buy things. Since you have so many you may want to call before hand

Academy Records and CDs

and give them an idea of what you have, classical, show, film, vocals, etc.

They may not buy everything and they will look at each CD to check for scratches, etc, unless they are still shrinkwrapped but it's worth a try.

Westside books on 72nd between Broadway and West end Ave or Academy Boks & Records on 18th between 5th and Sixth, DR Ben's home away from home.

I did not get to Encores! I did go to the orchestra reading and i've seen the show twice in the past 20 years.

For those who have an interest in the past.  I now have six tracks by The Allen Brothers (Peter "Allen" & Chris Bell) from circa 1960/61.

Did any of our NYC denizens answer my question of a few days ago--do any of you know of any vintage newspaper dealers I might contact to track down this damned 1958 paper JR and I are trying to get our hands on?

Not to be rude, but if I did know of a source, I would have answered you on your original inquiry. There used to be several OP magazine shops around 43rd Street and 8th, now long gone, but I've never seen a source for newspapers.

I should have been more clear.  He's seeing the Encores presentation of Kern and Hammerstein's MUSIC IN THE AIR at City Center, not just seeing random bits of music in the air.  :) :)
