More semi-random musing:

I can't stand the woman who is eating at the Chinese(?) restaurant in the Geico commercial.  What the heck is she playing?  First she sits there smiling at the money-pack and then acts shocked when told it's the money she could have saved blah blah blah and then she is suddenly all smiles and says "I know..." like she's the cat that just swallowed the canary.  What the--?!?

I agree I just can't stand the way she is simpering at that money packet - like I don't know what and ignoring her dinner companion

I think the whole campaign is dumb though

I also don't understand these dumbass "when life comes at you"car insurance commercials in which a young man or woman looks out the window calmly watching the car of the friend to whom they're asking about car insurance get demolished as all hell breaks loose from a fallen window washer to a domestic fight. They never say anything like, "holy sh*t! A lady just threw a sofa out the window and demolished the roof of your car!" or "call 911; a window washer fell to his death!"

Oh, my. Canned Corned Beef!!! I used to love that. I haven't had it since before I moved away from Minnesota. I don't know what it is about that stuff but I'm salivating just thinking of canned Argentinian corned beef (the can always said it was from Argentina).

I make a chicken pie which Vixdad loves.  I made it up and I I don't have exact measurements. I admit I cheat on the pie crust.  I find the Pillsbury refrigerated piecrust an acceptable substitute for home made - for the truly good cooks amongst you feel free to make the pie crust from scratch

Pillsbury Pie Crust
4 lbs boneless chicken breast
1/2 stick butter
1 small  Vidalia (or other sweet white) onion
1  package (10 oz I think) fresh white mushrooms
1/2 package fingerling carrots
1 can sweet peas (another short cut I take - purists feel free to shell your own)
1 cup white cooking wine
some flour for thickening purposes
salt and pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F

put bottom layer of pie crust in deep dish pie plate

Clean and thickly slice the mushrooms
peel and thinly slice the onion

melt 1/4 stick of butter in heavy skillet and sautee onions and mushroom until onions are translucent - remove from pan


Clean and cut the chicken breasts into bite size cubes

Melt remainder of butter in skillet add chicken and keep turning until pieces are golden brown on all sides.

remove from pan

add wine to pan drippings and cook over low heat till reduced add flour (or corn starch if you prefer) until desired thickness (sometimes I add a drop of Gravy Master in here for color)

Put chicken, onion mushroom mixture and cleaned carrots back in skillet and stir until nicely mixed


Pour the whole thing into bottom pie crust

Stir in drained peas stir gently taking are not to squish peas

put top layer on pie and seal put a couple of decorative steam holes witha fork

bake at 375 until crust is brown and flakey (about 30 minutes)

Serves 6 - 8

Spread on a layer of Hellman's Mayonnaise
Put on two slices of Hormel's Spam
Add one piece of Kraft American Cheese
Another piece of white bread on top.

Serve with Fritos brand corn chips.

Grilled SPAM?  I could never eat SPAM cold, but heated up in a skillet for a few minutes... YUM!  SPAM omelets were a regular breakfast item growing up too.

My mom occasionally had grilled Spam (with cloves) as the central entree of our dinner, and then we'd have Spam sandwiches the next day for lunch, so I grew up eating Spam hot and cold.

I don't think I've had a piece of Spam in 30 or 40 years at least.

I forgot to mention AS THE WORLD TURNS last night. I did get a chance to watch the episode. While I'm glad the mystery story is now underway, I absolutely HATED that it was Reg who was the murder victim. I always liked him, and I think the boneheaded writers underused a potentially fascinating character. Why not have a love triangle with Luke-Noah-Reg? Luke and Reg always seemed to have a connection (and judging by his reaction to Reg's death, maybe something happened we never got to see on-screen), and it's a waste of a good character.

I like Spam also (grilled). I guess growing up in Minnesota (even though Austin, MN is not near Minneapolis, it's south of the Twin Cities) had something to do with it.

I object to all the prescription drug commercials.  I wonder how much less those drugs would cost if they weren't paying millions for advertising them.

and the side effects are ridiculous - can lead to liver disfunction, known to cause sudden heart attacks, etc etc why are these things even FDA approved?!

From some of the gossip I've heard lately, the show is in such danger of being pulled that they have no money for extras - which explains why there were no police in the kidnapping or anybody in the bar - and I guess they're weeding the cast ASAP.
