Today my work project will be the original HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL on Blu-ray. (So, it's being shown in 1.78:1 instead of 1.33:1 as it was originally broadcast in 2006). Should look more like a real movie with the widescreen framing, and the sound will be a definite step-up from the way I originally heard it (through TV speakers at my friend John's house one evening.)

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I think I need some coffee.  I think.

I woke up at 7:00am, but since I didn't need to be up that early today, I went back to sleep.  The next thing I knew it was 9:45. I'm feeling quite groggy right now, and I'm wondering if I should have just gotten out of bed earlier.  In any case... Coffee time.

Der Brucer has no objections to my keeping some tzatziki in the refridgerator.  It's a great condiment for his sandwiches (and I'm not talking of peanut butter and jelly kind).

Take a container of plain yogurt (non-fat is fine, just don't get a flavored variety), and dump it into a strainer that has been lined with cheesecloth or paper towels and is sitting above a medium sized bowl.  Let as much of the excess liquid drain out as you can.  This can take a couple of hours.  Just let it sit.  Be patient.  This means you, BK.

Dump out the whey, and put the strained yogurt into the bowl.  Peel and seed a small cucumber, grate it on a box grater, and squeeze out as much water from the gratings as you can.  Add that to the yogurt.  Chop two to four cloves of garlic with some salt (from a half to a full teaspoon), mashing it up, and add that to the yogurt as well.  Finally, add a tablespoon of minced mint (or dill), a couple of grindings of fresh pepper, and a tablespoon of red wine vinegar.  mix this all together, pop it into the refridgerator so the flavors can blend, and you've got a great sauce for sandwiches, or to be added to soups, or even make your french fries tastier.

If bk does not wish to wait, he could always buy a container of Greek(-style) yogurt - which is already pre-strained.  The thick stuff does cost a few extra pennies - well, maybe nickels and dimes - but it's worth the investment.  Fage* seems to be the brand carried by most markets, but there are many other brands out there right now.  Just check your grocer's shelves.

*Fage's website has a "cute" opening screen.

I guess I need to head downstairs and get cleaned up for my lunch out with best friend John. Ordinarily, he would have been at home today with his kids, but today is a make-up snow day, so they're at school and we get to go to lunch. Yay!

Our local schools are in session today, too.  They're making up not only snow days, but calamity days that were required during the aftermath of September's visit from Hurricane Ike.

bk - I forget: What exactly is it about Indian and Greek foods that you are "afraid" of?  Is it the spicing? The cooking methods? The textures?

For both cuisines, start off with the grilled items.  Greek: pork or chicken souvlaki - which is just cubes of marinated meat that have been skewered and grilled.  -You can get them served in a pita, or with rice.  Grilled lamb is also very traditional in Greek cuisine.

I do have some friends who don't prefer Greek cuisine either, but that's because they don't like feta cheese.  Well, there are lots of Greek dishes out there that don't contain feta cheese. *There's a Greek fast food chain in L.A., Daphne's Greek Cafe.  There's a location in the West Hollywood Gateway - where the "Tar-Gay" is.  It could be a good starter place for you.

There are various kebobs/kabobs in Indian cuisine too which are traditionally cooked in a tandoor oven.  Again, whether it's chicken or lamb, it's usually served with some sort of bread - naan or poori - or with basmati rice.

RE: last night's TAR.

Okay who are everyone's favorite and least favorite teams???

I liked the older couple and I think they will do well. I also like the stunt men/brothers.

I did not care for the two redheaded gals.

I don't really like Feta cheese and for whatever reasons in later life I have become anti-lamb, eating-wise.  As a kid, I loved lamb chops, but now I wouldn't go near them - don't know why or exactly when that happened.

I loooooove Greek food.  As I mentioned before, DH Jed and I have a Greek place in town that we enjoy, where we ate on Friday before Glorious.  Our all time favorite place is the Greek Cusina in Portland.  We are both fond of all things involving feta, warm pita bread, spanikopita, souvlaki, tzatziki...mmm, all delicious.

Indian food I enjoy some of the basic dishes. I love basmati rice, and I've enjoyed it with a good chicken tikka or a curry thing on top.  As a kid I couldn't stand curry, but I don't mind it now, in small quantities.  I also love the naan bread.

BK, I love both Indian and Greek food, so if you can wait to sample them I will happily take you to both upon my visit to LA in April.

If you can't wait, I recommend finding a good Indian place that serves buffet style for lunch, this way you can sample each item and decide what you like and don't like and then you can go back for more of what you do like. Some Indian food is spicy but not all...Butter Chicken is a good choice...it is more on the sweet side. Some Indian foods will taste totally different then what they look like they will taste...so sample away!

Greek food: Some of my friends think Greek food is bland. I love it. Stuffed grape leaves are very tasty. Again the flavors can vary...some you may love, and some you may not.

Again, I would love to treat you to lunches at both types of restaurants, so don't hate it before I get there!

Betsy and I have an exciting morning planned doing our tax prep before we meet with our CPA this weekend.  Oh, joy.  Or perhaps, Oh, Oy.  Actually, I always dread this, but I am so anal retentively well organized that it usually only takes an hour, tops.

Then I think we may go test drive a Chevy Cobalt.

Well, the stump was ground up in record time--it took the guy a little over an hour to do the job.  I was worried last week that this would not get accomplished at all--when public services came by last week to mark out where the underground lines layed, they marked a blue line across the stump, indicating the water line.  I had to go back and forth on the phone a number of times during the week to find out how deep the line was beneath the ground and that the service valve was out of the way before convincing the stump grinder guy that it would be okay to do his work.  But the job is now done and I have to figure out what to do with the pile of wood chips.  I dont like using this stuff for mulch--it's really not a good quality.  My brother-in-law might come by later today to see if he wants to use it around his swimming pool.

A little over an hour!  I admire your endurance.

DR TCB - haven't heard of that book, but a recent episode of CSI: NY had a similar plot.  I'll look for the book - thanks!
