DtM you may be interested to know the church where I work recommended a carpenter to do some repair work around the home environment before the masses descend for Gabe's Bar Mitzvah this summer.  His nom de hammer is Dan the Man.

Grrrr...I knew I should have gotten that trademarked.

DR Jane, i am not sure if they have the Winter Carnival each year. This is the first year i have noticed it. They did have a summer version this past summer. Although in the summer they charged for everything (it wasn't that much, maybe $5 for a full pass). But at the winter one everything was free.

Well, the stump was ground up in record time--it took the guy a little over an hour to do the job.  I was worried last week that this would not get accomplished at all--when public services came by last week to mark out where the underground lines layed, they marked a blue line across the stump, indicating the water line.  I had to go back and forth on the phone a number of times during the week to find out how deep the line was beneath the ground and that the service valve was out of the way before convincing the stump grinder guy that it would be okay to do his work.  But the job is now done and I have to figure out what to do with the pile of wood chips.  I dont like using this stuff for mulch--it's really not a good quality.  My brother-in-law might come by later today to see if he wants to use it around his swimming pool.

A little over an hour!  I admire your endurance.

Well, all I had to do was sit there and watch...

I absolutely love greek food.

For someone who might want to try something not too spicy i recommend souvlaki in a pita.

Could you put your stump grindings in your compost pile? Or how about starting a compost pile -- beginning with your stump grindings.

Last Night's TAR:

My favorite team so far is the deaf kid and his mom but it's always hard to go by just the first episode.  I am glad we are rid of the snippy couple (though we lost some eye candy there.)  And I'm not crazy about the hillbillies because they remind me too much of the last hillbilly couple we had.  The blondies are too full of themselves for me to pull for them at this stage.  Other than that, I'm going to wait until the next episode to make any sure judgement calls.

It's a lovely "fall" day here in Whereversville. Cool, crisp, with bright sun. A sweater is needed, but it's still lovely.

I thought about that but there's so much of it and it's almost as fine as sawdust.  I would be afraid to use it as mulch cause it could wind up choking the ground.  Maybe I'll do a little more research on line to see how long it would take to decompose.

I have never heard of choking the ground. But then, when your ground is caliche, it's already choked.

In local news today: One of the basketball players was cited for driving 55 mph over the speed limit (90 mph in a 35 mph zone) -- and with his three-year-old unrestrained in the backseat.

TOD:

Greek: I really haven't had a lot of Greek food, partly because I found what I did have to be rather ho-hum. Do any DRs know of great Greek restaurants in LA to recommend?

Indian: Well now, that's a different story! I adore Indian food.  I used to frequent a little Indian eatery called Dhaba in Santa Monica--very informal, but very good food. I went often enough to sample different entrees and it was cheap enough that if I didn't like something it wasn't a big deal.

I second what Mike said. Bruce, I'd be happy to help you learn about Indian cuisine. Yes, the buffets are a good way to sample various dishes. Just stay clear of Vindaloo. There are always mild dishes to choose from. Butter Chicken is a big favorite among novices and there's usually a shish kabob that's pretty tame. Different flavors, yes, to be sure, but very good ones.

Neither have I.

But I've heard of vomiting on the ground.

Oh! I just noticed that Jose recommended a Greek eatery in LA. Thanks, Jose. Your recommendation was for BK, but I'll try it, too.

And just like that, we're pretty much done with our tax prep.  Now the CPA gets everything.

Yes, I went through that yesterday.  I kept hitting the "postpone for 4 hours", then I'd have to leave to do something, and the second I came back, the 4 hours were up and it was trying to restart again.  :)

DR DAW - glad you and doggy emerged unscathed from the Skunk Encounter.

There was a BIG squirrel fight in my back yard earlier this morning over ownership of the Sunflower Seed crock.  Golden Boy won and Baby Boy lost some fur behind his neck.....  While they were fighting, Stealth Boy ran over and ate many Sunflower Seeds.

Tax season proceeds apace.

Completed two returns from yesterday which had "open items."

I also got a draft to the client of the extremely involved return with the foreign subsidiaries (each of which needed their own return) - I'm sure the client is out today because of the holiday, but at least it'll be waiting for them when they get in tomorrow and they'll have plenty of time to look it over at their convenience.

I wonder if today's Topic Title is what you get when you perform Lord Lloyd-Webber's musical with a stripped-down orchestra?

My Federal Income Tax Refund was to have mailed on February 13, so perhaps it will be in the mailbox tomorrow.
