Dear Francois,   A long time ago, I spent a week in Paris.  In a little hotel by the Opera House, it was the first time I realized how wonderful it was to walk home in middle of the night after seeing a show.  In LA we just get in our cars.

There was a nice article in the local paper today about DR Samantha's (not to be confused with DR Sam) DBF.  He's the first person who is graduating from the Wind Turbine Technology program at the local community college to transfer into the University of Iowa's new wind based engineering program.  DR Samantha is planning to go there with him.

DR Sam, DR Samantha is my niece.  She went to an HHW gathering with us to see The Brain from Planet X in New York. She doesn't post often, but does ask how everyone is doing when I see her.

I finished reading The Soloist tonight.  It was a very good book and it was great to read it right after seeing Mr. Ayers and Mr. Lopez on 60 minutes

Well, I guess I probably should have just kept napping after Earth Hour earlier tonight, so...

Goodnight.

Time for me to get some sleep too. I'm feeling much better after sleeping over 10 hours last night, but it's getting late and tomorrow I want to clean house and then go to a multicultural fair in the afternoon.

As has been the case repeatedly since yesterday, I'm listening to Two For The Seesaw.  Cannot get enough!

I've been working my way through the slim Arthur Laurents book, On Directing, or whatever it's called.  I must say, I am not enjoying it and I would hate working for him if I was an actor.

I got some nice things in the mail today all the way from India. As some of you know I am a big fan of Bollywood (!) and I have even begun collecting Bollywood movie memorabilia. It is quite difficult to find posters and such that are in good condition as the humidity and heat tends to turn old paper products to dust after so many years....but I have lucked onto a couple of people in India who have scoured the countryside (and their basements) for some nice items for me.

And here are a few of them that just arrived...

From the 1920s and 1930s...

While I got a couple of packages in the mail, I did NOT get any of the way overdue stuff.

Listening to an Elliot Goldenthal composer promo - he's very good, but, you know, after listening to Previn it's all just so much fish.

Then I watched the finals of the ladies' figure skating world championship. Rachel Flatt was able to skate her way into fifth place thanks to a good performance from her and mediocre to poor performances from two of the ladies in the top tier. The lovely South Korean skater blew the rest of the group away, however, making it not much of a contest. Still I enjoyed it.

I was FURIOUS with NBC for not showing Alissa Cizny's free skate, especially since they commented that she had done so well. (She came up from 14th to 11th place.) And, the show had 10 minutes to spare at the end where Dick Button and Michelle Kwan had to improvise comments just to fill in time. Alissa's performance could have been shown then.

They could easily have done without several of the ladies' skates.  They did, however, show Lysacek's gold medal men's performance in its entirety in the show's final five minutes.
