Good morning, all! I have a day at the NYPL and an evening with our DR Ben to watch the wonderful Helen Mirren as Margery Pinchwife, the eponymous character of Wycherly's bawdy comedy The Country Wife. On my walk to NYPL today, I will stop by the pharmacy for more drugs, and at Lincoln Center, I'll begin my last foray through the 1903-1905 Townsend Walsh scrapbooks for BABES IN TOYLAND. I need to get my footnotes all in line and I pray to God the missing scrapbook, mislaid since their move back to Lincoln Center in 2002, has been located and is back to its corrrect shelf space.
TOD: OKLAHOMA!, which I think is still as fresh as it was in 1943, is my favorite score and my favorite show is probably CAROUSEL. The great revival of SOUTH PACIFIC last year proved the show was much greater than I had lately thought it to be. I don't have a favorite song: I loved Richard Rodgers' music. Period.
