If any DRs are planning on driving in the lovely state of Delaware in the future, beware:
I now have my Learner's Permit!Der B's daughter drove us to the DMV (located in Georgetown), where I was told that my Identification Card was enough out of date that I'd have to prove that I am still living in Delaware by providing two pieces of mail addressed to me at my current address. So we drove back to the house, and back to the DMV, where I got an up-to-date Identification Card (horrible picture, of course), and started the process for the Learner's Permit.
Did I want to take the written test immediately? I thought it would be a good idea to look over the rule book first, so we three drove back to Rehoboth, to give a new BBQ jernt called
Bethany Blues a try while I boned up on the book. Not a bad lunch. We're going to basically skip dinner tonight.
Along the way, der B hopped over to a thrift store right next door and found a new couch to replace the one that has completely fallen apart (and which was given to us as a temp when we moved here).
Back to the DMV, where I took the written test. It's amazing, how high tech Delaware is, compared with the torture that was every California DMV - the test was completely computerized, keeping score on the questions as I went. I nearly aced it - I missed one questions, which I had doubts about to begin with and should have skipped (that's an option) - and the moment I got the minimum number of questions correct, the computer congratulated me and told me I'd passed. And the people at the DMV were all genuinely friendly - again, something never encountered at a California DMV.
I got to drive us back to Rehoboth.
Now I've got two months until I have to take the actual driving test. Uh-oh, that means parallel parking. Oh, bother.
