Yes, '2001' on Blu-ray does look and sound amazing. I was one of those people who knew it was something special when I first saw it but took a long time to study it enough on home video to be able to appreciate it fully.

Now, it's pure pleasure to watch.

There are not a huge number of bonus features on BIG, so I'm hoping to have some time to myself tonight to watch something for fun. I have some things on the DVR, of course, but I'd also like to finish SOUTH PACIFIC on Blu-ray if there is time.

I'd like to finish disc 5 in the NCIS second season box set.

I'd like to watch another Doris Day title in her latest collection. TEA FOR TWO comes next in chronology.

And I've got that five-disc PLANET OF THE APES Blu-ray package that I've only watched the original film from.

Lots to choose from.

It is now raining: a nice spring shower with a cool breeze attached. Very pleasant.

Guess I need to head downstairs to get laundry ready for washing and then start thinking about what's for lunch.

Elmore, thanks for thinking I go with Percy Faith, but after he died, I started going with Sergio Mendes.  Please update your Rolodex.  :)

I'm up and if I'm doing the long jog I'd better do it soon, as it's already very hot out.

Shayne, re PowerPoint - if you're in love with that program you can get Office Works for Mac - it gives you Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and works great.

Holy moley on rye - just read of the passing of Scott Schechter, who died of a heart attack at forty-six.  He was responsible for a lot of Judy and Liza reissues on CD, as well as books on both (I think).  He used to call me at Varese regularly and we'd talk about reissuing Liza and Judy stuff, but I could never make it happen there.  Still, I'm thanked in one of his books, and he was always very sweet and seemed like a terrific person.

I'm at the office finishing up a Petition for Rehearing to the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals and listening to The Essential Paul Simon.  Well, actually I'm pretty much done with the Petition now. Think it's time to head home and make something wonderful with rhubarb and strawberries.  I'm thinking some sort of strawberry-rhubarb crisp....

Good morning!  Last night's performance (and last night's audience) was wonderful!  We had nearly a full-house and the show was the best it has ever been.  It really clicked.  Sadly, it was hotter than Hades last night in both the house and onstage.  Yesterday was probably the first day of the year where the temperature was over 70, and the Parks Department needs to get their collective asses in gear.

We are two thirds of the way thru the run of GUYS AND DOLLS, and, so far, the only review we have received is from the Seattle Gay News.  Wow!  I love working in the BIG city.

Actually the review in the SGN was very nice, and was better written than a lot of theater reviews I have seen (or read) over the years.

Scott also was sweet to me and a great source of information as well.  Somehow he found out about STARCROSSED, my Judy Garland-Frances Farmer musical, and kept in regular contact with me about it, providing me with tons of information.  Though he really didn't want Judy *ever* portrayed as being drunk, I think he knew that it was inevitable.

Try Portland, TCB.  They just got around to reviewing the Original Broadway cast last week.  :)

I just went back and found a disarmingly nice email from Scott:

"You've managed to capture the essence of Judy--the sweetness, the wackiness, the warmth, and, yes, the vitriol--as very few have."

That's a pretty good pull quote.

Two recent favorite headlines department:

From last week's Oregonian:  CHIMP THAT MAULED WOMAN WAS ON XANAX

From today's Craig's List:  VERSATILE PAGE TURNER AVAILABLE (I assume that means he/she can stand on either side of you, and turn forward or backward)

JRand, do you ever check estate sales for vintage clothes for the theater? I see clothes from the 40s, 50s and 60s (mostly women's) all the time...and no one buys them...you can likely get a very good price!

And of course, in your area you never know when an estate sale might turn up a Frances Farmer autographed photo!

BeeGee is most interested in the shrieks/chants from the Yoruba sequence from the new expanded soundtrack to BLACK ORPHEUS.

I don't know if anyone here noticed, but Marilyn Borden, who played Teesny (opposite her sister Rosyland who played  Weensy) on the TENNESSEE BOUND episode of I LOVE LUCY passed away a few weeks back.

One of my favorite episodes!

Maybe it's a gay Republican senator?

I'm euphoric and giddy! I finally finished the edits I've been doing for the past month.
