TOD - I first used the internet at work (Miami University) as an adjunct faculty member in the teacher education department, a job I started in the fall of 1994.  It was all text-based, so I used email and some discussion groups.  It was during my 3 years in that job that the WWW became part of our lives and I was able to get a lot of in-service training from the University.  I remember designing a lesson for aspiring teachers, where I asked them to find 3 sites for fun, 2 sites that would be useful in their teaching, and 1 site that they wouldn't want their students to find by accident.  They found some doozies.  It was all so new then...

We connected here at home in late 1996 or early 1997, first using a local ISP called Infinet, then transitioning to Road Runner (Time Warner).  I remember comparing the planning of our 1996 driving vacation out west (pre-Internet) to the planning of our 1999 driving vacation to the east coast (post-Internet).  Totally different experiences!

That sounds so interesting!  Why did you give up teaching college?

No future for adjuncts - the dirty secret of academia.  I taught on a semester-to-semester basis, few fringe benefits, no raise for 10 years, etc.  Met my needs when I was trying to be a mostly stay-at-home Mom, but eventually I needed a real job, so went back to library work when Rob finished elementary school.  Now, I'd teach again in a minute, if anybody asked.

Maybe you should ask! For instance- I would imagine a course on grant seeking would be immensely interesting and  useful!

Vixmom, sounds like the Vixter behaved more professionally than many professionals.

In the very last episode, Jim Carrey does an over-the-top take on "And I Am Telling You" from Dreamgirls.    :D

When does Jim Carrey ever do anything  that isn't over the top?

TOD:  We first got internet in the early 90's.  Started with e-mail.  I have no idea what the first site I visited was, and I certainly didn't know what the possibilities were then.  I think the first thing I bought was an M & M logo watch from e-bay.  As I recall, the basic shipping of a a few dollars was more than the watch itself.

Happy to help.  And nice to feel useful, since I'm not working at the moment.    :)

How many missing close parentheses did you find?   :P ;D

Good Afternoon!

I'm up... And I've been up for a while, but moving a little slow this morning.  Been feelin' my sinuses. Thankfully, I believe my head is finally clearing, literally.

And I now have the dubious and somewhat amazing distinction of having quoted DR vixmom before she posted it.    ;)

Speaking of those types of mysterious things, how did I receive a letter yesterday from the IRS dated June 8, 2009?  I know they are powerful, but wow!

What a change in the weather.  Thursday it was 91 in some parts of Tacoma, but today it is in the low 60s and rather drizzily (it that a word?).  Vashon Island has completely disappeared into a fog bank.

Back from the grocery, where I bought the ingredients to make chili (Richard's request).  It's simmering now and beginning to smell good!

Our mailman just brought me (via Netflix) Jerome Robbins: Something to Dance About.  I'm going to the other end of the house to watch it on the big TV.

Bye for now!

I sat on the porch a bit while lunch was cooking. It hadn't gotten overly warm yet and was very pleasant.
