Yes, Neil Patrick Harris' number was the TRUE hit of the show. I loved, loved, loved it, and he was in grand voice, too.

Can't wait to see what he does! :)

So, if the four nominated musicals all get their own segments, why include them in the opening medley, also?

It was a teaser to get people to stay tuned for the rest of the ceremony.  -And also to give a chance for the casts of all the musicals - nominated and not nominated - to get on stage.

Ahh...thanks. :)

And now I'm heading to bed.

Good night!

And enjoy the show, West Coasters. Yep, there are some bumpy moments, but there are some priceless moments I wouldn't have wanted to miss.

I wonder if they had to run any of those lyrics by the CBS censor?

We don't need no stinkin' censors.

DR JoseSPiano, did they have to recreate all of the original sets at RCMH for the presentation segments?

DR JoseSPiano, did they have to recreate all of the original sets at RCMH for the presentation segments?

Most of the shows have a "traveling set" they use for special events, television promos and other appearances.  However, some shows do break down part of their set right after the Sunday matinée.

*Of course, Guys & Dolls set is composed mainly of projections, so...

Featured Actor in a Play:  Roger Robinson, "Joe Turner's Come and Gone"...now that we don't have to worry about spoilers.

His mother lives in Washington state!

I'm afraid I'm going to have to turn in soon too.  Tomorrow is "I Will Get This Apartment Rented Out" Day, so I have a bunch of things to take care of in the morning.  And then I'm hoping to head back to MoMA in the afternoon to catch a few more glimpses of "Into the West" since it closes tomorrow.

There was a very nice Tony Award concert presented by one of the New York channels - it was shot at the Hudson Theater and featured the performers in street clothes performing numbers from their shows.  It was quite a good show.  Carole Shelley practically stole the show singing her song from BILLY ELLIOT.  The gals from GUYS AND DOLLS were quite weak.  Matt Cavenaugh looked good.  If you haven't seen it, I suggest tracking it down somewhere.

Did anyone here record this?? :D

I did.  But, alas, I have no way to transfer it to a DVD.  I believe that DR td may know "somewhere".  ;)

I actually have a dvd with minor synch problems, but it's watchable.

Back for a MO!!

Congrats to Alice Ripley and to MR BK on his insight!

Yes, Mr Neil Patrick Harris' closing number was really everything a Tony number should be....

I enjoyed this year's awards - aside from Next To Normal, I did not see anything that I would want to see if I went to NYC or if it came to a theater near me.

The opening number was not the BEST most AMAZING thing EVER.  It wasn't a disaster, but close, thanks to inept TV direction, bad sound, and having Elton and Dolly is shameful, IMO.  They are NOT in the shows and should have been presenters or had some other segment - unless it was mentioned that they're not in the shows, which it wasn't and which was the problem with the entire opening number - no context - tell us what we're seeing.  Neil is fine, and I liked the acceptance speech of the Joe Turner guy, who DID thank the person who told him he was going to win.

Yep, James Carpinello.  -Who was also originally in Xanadu.  But then he had an "accident".

Nothing that I saw either, made me want to rush to NYC to see any of the shows, except for NEXT TO NORMAL, which I want to see how much different it is now than it was in March of 2008. . .
