Well, the fates weren't on my side this afternoon when I went to pull up the advanced episode of this week's NURSE JACKIE. I wouldn't come up. I was SO frustrated. Of course, I'll recorded it during the broadcast tomorrow night, but I had really set my heart on watching it today.

So, I took Season Two of BONES off the shelf and watched the episode about the well-off teenaged boy who ran off with his homeless girl friend and was later found dead in a dumpster.

Carol Channing's "s"s are really intriguing Zach.  He is standing close to the computer speaker and staring quite intently.         :D

I spent the rest of the afternoon on FOR ALL MANKIND.

I'm embarrassed to say I had never seen this documentary before. It's made from thousands of hours of NASA footage dealing with the six Apollo moon missions, all culled into one trip to the moon and back. It's a very profound, very moving piece of cinema with those startling images, many never before shown until this documentary, and the voices on the soundtrack of the astronauts themselves talking about different aspects of the mission and what those memoents meant to them. I had tears well up in my eyes several times during the mere 80 minute running time of the documentary.

It's beautiful and haunting. Criterion released it many years ago (I neveer saw that release on DVD), but this is a new transfer, and I'm assuming there are a bunch of new bonus features too that are equally fascinating all dealing with the men involved with the project and the moon missions.

I reviewed the DVD today. I'll get to the Blu-ray version later in the week. Can't wait to get to it because I'm sure much of it will look astounding. The sound is also magnificent - even on DVD! It's Dolby Digital 5.1 and features very deep bass that will rattle the room during the takeoff.

I'm thinking I need to purchase a new suit for the 9/18 McGlinn memorial.

Well, since you've lost all that weight and you look svelte and sexy now, you must buy a new suit!

As for the bonuses, there's an audio commentary with the director and astronaut Gene Cernan that's as full of information as the documentary itself. There's a making-of documentary.

A new compilation of talking head footage of 15 of the astronauts featured in the film, some archive footage and some a lot more recent, none of it used in the movie but all very interesting to see.

There's a wonderful featurette of astronaut Alan Bean's moon/astronaut paintings with his voiceover explanations of his motivations for painting what he did.

And there are five different liftoff sequences from Mercury through Saturn rocket launchers.

So, the entire era of the APollo moon program is covered in great detail, and every bit of it is spellbinding.

I did manage to finish the entire disc this afternoon which leaves this evening for watching something fun. I think it'll probably be HANCOCK so I can clear it off my DVR. We'll see.

The internet seems very quiet this afternoon. I'll hop off now and get some writing done before heading down to have a fun evening of leisure viewing.

I took a drive in the motor car - too many people out today.  And really hot.  I've addressed more packages and still have about fifty to do.

Forgot to mention, that there's a scene in Capricorn One that always makes me laugh - the film takes place in Texas.  There's one shot on a street corner where people are standing around.  You can clearly see the street sign - Rhodes Ave.  Well, not exactly Texas, since Rhodes Ave is one block from my very own street, and that shot was taken at the corner of Rhodes and Ventura Blvd.  The only real change there is that the building on the corner, where everyone is standing, is now The Good Earth restaurant and the Rhodes street sign, for some strange reason, is no longer there.

Hmmmm...    DR George must still be at his cast party.

I was at the time of your posting, but not anymore.  I didn't get home until 3:45 a.m....and several people were still at the party when I left.  A fun time was had by all! :D

Sunday afternoon greetings from Dayton International Airport!  We arrived here from Lima way early, so we're all checked in, through security, and waiting patiently at our gate.

I got a few hours sleep (darned morning sun) and I'm still a bit sleepy.  I'm going to take a nap now, before tonight's SUNDAY performance of "Romeo & Juliet" that starts at 8 p.m.. :P I don't know why they decided to have a Sunday NIGHT show.  Why couldn't they at least start it at 7 p.m.

Anyway, have a good rest of the day, all.

;D

I'm sad for you, Cillaliz. I understand how you feel.

Thanks DR Laura.  There really aren't any other kids in the neighborhood, so I'll miss them even more.  They aren't going far, but we all know that it's just different when you aren't neighbors anymore.

I got a ton of cleaning done while taking my mind off of things.

On another note....I'm very curious about the 40 something divorced man who will be moving into the house.    I'm thinking he'll be moving while I'm at the lake next weekend.   I will have my cat/house sitter keep an eye out for me
