Ice Cream month?  It's about time!  I've been faux celebrating all year!
Isn't every day Ice Cream Day?

Um... Yes! Although, sometimes I swap out Frozen Custard or Sorbet for the Ice Cream.  Is that OK?

;)

And speaking of Ice Cream...

The other day, DR DAW mentioned the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck, and, lo and behold, what should I happen to come across today while I was walking around Union Square...

:)

*That's their "famous" Nutella Ice Cream Sandwich, which is made-to-order: two chocolate wafer cookies, a generous spread of Nutella and Vanilla Soft Serve.  YUM!!!

I finished watching a motion picture on Blu-Ray and am now watching an actual DVD, which I haven't done in ages.  It's an import of Doug Sirk's A Time To Love And A Time To Die - what an odd motion picture it is, but it looks quite good upscaled.

Would you buy ice cream from this man?

I did.  :)

That's Doug Quint who runs The Big Gay Ice Cream truck.  I actually got a chance to chat with him twice today, once down at Union Square, and then again up by the Port Authority.  I just happened to be walking uptown, and noticed that he had moved there.  It also turns out that he's a fellow musician, a bassoonist, and he plays Broadway shows too.  He was with Beauty & the Beast for a while, and he currently subs into South Pacific every now and then.

He also got a mention in today's NY Times in the article about the current "Food Truck Wars":

Turf War at the Hot Dog Cart

*And since he had been trapped in his truck all day, I went ahead and bought a copy of today's Times so that he could have a hard copy of the article.

...And while we were chatting up by the Port Authority, a very tall and imposing man came up to the truck... "Hey, I heard you threw some ice cream on someone!"... Then he flashed a badge.  A police badge. He turned out to be an undercover cop.

I haven't thrown anything on anyone.
"Are you sure? We just got the call."  -Then another cop came up. More badge flashing.
-I've been talking with him for the past 20 minutes, and he's done nothing.
"Well, someone said they saw you throw ice cream on someone."
You can ask the pizza guy over there.  He's been watching me all night. Nothing's happened.

That's when the cops started laughing.

"You're OK, guy.  Just making sure you're doing all right tonight."

Whew!

And, actually, it was funny.  And the cops were cute too.  ;)

Wow, how nice to read the posts again.

Thanks for all the cheer.

And the sadness of those who passed away today.

Ice cream, I just finished rum raisin.

A really great Thursday for all of us.

And Christmas in July (from when I used to watch the Home Shopping channel).

My TV no longer works because of the signal change, and I just don't feel like going out to buy a new one, let's see how long before TV withdrawls set in.

Hi Jose,

4th of July, you bet.

I live across from the CBS lot, which has great fireworks..   I can watch from my window, or my front lawn at the building, or go across the street and down to the LA river where the sound bounces off the walls and sounds like thunder (and the ground moves).

And I do believe dinner is at Tom's next door.  He cooks, I bring over his favorite vodka.

When the fireworks start, I leave to watch them along with several hundred other people who come to hang out on the street from all over town, and he and the dogie take sedatives.

Almost forgot, thanks for all the pics everyone.

The paper castle is incredible, and so is Jose's mural.

A castle made out of paper that took four years to build:

Heck! I could have made an origami castle like that during the long book scene in 1776!

Not.

Michael Weiss of THE PRETENDER happened to be in the audience at ARCHBISHOP SUPREME TARTUFFE last night.  I believe he must be a friend of Andre De Shields.

DR FJL - Does this mean that you and/or your ever-lovin' Skip went to the Clurman last night?

And back-tracking to yesterday's discussion of The Little Mermaid closing...

In another case of bad timing, the next set of auditions - the six-month replacement call - happened to get posted yesterday morning... Before the closing announcement was made in the afternoon.  I'm guessing those auditions - which were to take place the first week of August - will most likely be cancelled.  :-\

DR Ginny - It sounds like you and DH Richard are having a very good Week of Theatre.  And, yes, we will make sure you start heading down to the lobby at 7:00 tomorrow for your quick cab ride to the Laura Pels.

Goodnight.
