Boy could I have slept late today if she of the Evil Eye wasn't arriving.

The price you pay for making the poor dear work on a National Holiday.           ;)

And the word of the day is: INVIGILATE!

And The Song Of The Day Is: SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME

Oddly, this song has always had the capacity to really get on my nerves...

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I spent a good chunk of this morning listening to NPR... "All Things Considered" had a lot of interesting and fun stuff this morning, and then "Studio 360" had a program based around "The Great Gatsby".  Needless to say, I'm now running a little late.  But it's a good late.  ;)

Speaking as an audition pianist: "Tell me about it!"

Last night we celebrated Independence Day in our usual way, watching 1776.  Tonight we will be going up to Jed's aunt's house in Seattle to watch fireworks.  We will see how Toby handles it.

I assume/hope there weren't any people who were relying on Jeff's cookout as their July 4th celebration plans, who then found themselves just a few days before July 4th with nothing to do because of the beach plans.

Well, there may have been, but he did call it off two weeks ago, so that was a fairly good amount of time to plan something else.

BK

Is Bob Gitt  the same person as Robert Gitt who worked on the restoration of Lost Horizon (original)

If he is...

can you ask him if there is going to be a Blu Ray release of it and have they been able to improve upon the restoration since the 1999 dvd release? Any of the missing footage been found over the last decade or so?

TOD:  Most of the 4th of July of my youth were spent going to parks for free fireworks shows.  My favorite July 4th was when we spent most of the day at Brophy Pool swimming, and then went to the Palms Theatre to see "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" which was a nice trip to movie heaven for me.  As we took my grandparents home after the movie, we saw some fireworks in the distance- always a treat as a kid, and even now.  We stopped at the Carnation Ice Cream Restaurant and got "Red, White and Blueberry" ice cream cones (again a treat not usually within our budget).

Indeed!

Nor anyone else, for that matter...          :)

I don't really have any July 4th memories...   except for the simple joy of sparklers in childhood.

Growing up in the L.A. area, I do remember that small fireworks were legal then in CA - perhaps still are.  My best friend and I somehow got a hold of the "catalog" from a local dealer printed on newsprint, and pored over it excessively and in great detail, comparing the various packages and comparing what array of items each contained.  I don't recall that we ever prevailed in persuading our parents to actually purchase any of said packages, however.        :)
