BK, since you're the Li'l Abner expert, I have a question (actually, anyone can answer, if they know). According to the editorial review/product description of "That Old Mercer Magic!, "Standout tracks are; Spring, Spring, Spring from the Tony Award winning Broadway musical Li'l Abner..." But that song title is not listed on either the Broadway cast recording or the movie soundtrack, nor is it in the Internet Broadway Database page for Li'l Abner. Is this really from Li'l Abner (maybe under a different title) or was it/could it have been written for a different show by Gene DePaul and Johnny Mercer and the reviewer got his/her facts mixed up?

I began my evening of viewing with PETE KELLY'S BLUES which one of my dear friends gave me for Christmas and I hadn't gotten around to watching it until tonight. I was very impressed with the sharp, clean transfer. And wonderful singing from Ella Fitzgerald (who couldn't act AT ALL) and Peggy Lee (who could act).

After that, I put in A STAR IS BORN (1954), and boy was there a difference in transfer quality. I am SO glad Warners is working on a new transfer for the film because, althought it looked fine when it was first released, it should look so much better than it does.

I mean, PETE KELLY'S BLUES used WarnerColor. STAR IS BORN's Technicolor should look far better than this.

Well the COMBAT is staged - and it actually looks very good. I am happy to have in my cast one person who knows EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING from choreography to music to costumes to hair dye for all I know. He can be counted on to express himself loudly about all of the above subjects.

There may be a Murder In Putnam County before August.

Yes DR TCB and DR GEORGE - Kenny and T.J. are very cute and very nice and neither of them is the subject of the sentences above. Kenny plays the Priest - DR MATT H's part, I think he has written, and T.J. is Pedro the leader of the Muleteers.

It was another wonderful summer night here in NYC. After taking care of my errands down my Union Square, I went ahead and walked back up to Columbus Circle to catch the A Train back uptown. I was tempted to walk all the way home, but decided to save those "steps" for this weekend, when I'll be acting as tour guide for a couple of people.

I went ahead and traded in a couple more DVDs and CDs at Academy this afternoon, and was once again pleasantly surprised with my "return".

I also brought a couple of books down to The Strand to sell. When they told me just how "little" they would give me for my books, I was almost tempted to say, "Nevermind," but I didn't feel like taking them back uptown. $:-\$

MOONFLEET and BEAU BRUMMELL.....I missed SCARAMOUCHE earlier tonight, but I haven't seen BB for years, and am particularly interested in seeing it since I recently read the biography by Ian Kelly....and watched the newer movie with James Purefoy....

So...

When I talked to my cousin, Christine, earlier we set up a couple possible times to meet while she's in town. She's coming into NYC for a bit of a vacation, and also to hang with a "new friend" who happens to live here in NYC. I have a feeling that I'm not supposed to mention this "new friend" when I talk to her mother, my aunt. At least not yet.

But I am looking forward to seeing her again. I think it's been about 20, if not 25 years since we've seen each other.

*I called Christine's parents, my aunt and her husband, before I called Christine, and we had a very nice conversation. And it had also been a while since I had talked to either of them. When I talked to my aunt's husband (uncle?), we talked about my recent trip to the Philippines. It was nice to hear that he had some of the same thoughts about some of my Mom's family as I had/have.

At first, I thought the whittling down of the CDs and DVDs would be a much harder process, but it turned out to be much easier and less emotional than I thought it was going to be. There really were so many(!) CDs that I had bought purely for reference purposes when I was in college, and almost of those CDs had never been played since I was in college. I have been burning some of them into iTunes just to have some sort of record of them, but, for the most part... They've been going into the "Sell Bag" and down to Academy.

The DVDs have been a little trickier, mainly since I've always been a bit more selective when it comes to buying DVDs since I know that I tend not to watch DVDs regularly. However, when I came across a box of DVDs that I had bought five or six years ago... and they were still unopened and wrapped... Into the "Sell Bag".

Now I just need to go through my "boxes of stuff" and "boxes of junk".

It didn't at first. They began filming in WarnerColor and simple widescreen. After a few days, they began again in Technicolor and Cinemascope.

Nope, I played The Duke/Dr. Carasco. The Priest is a tenor part. My voice is as far away from a tenor as it's possible to be.
