DR Michael Shayne:

It was Tucker Smith who dubbed Russ Tamblyn, not Robert Tucker (whoever that is).

This may have already been mentioned, but Robert Tucker was one of MGM's finest choral directors...and he did such things as

The Sound of Music (1965) (vocal supervisor)
... aka Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music (UK: complete title) (USA: complete title)
My Fair Lady (1964) (vocal arranger)
Billy Rose's Jumbo (1962) (music arranger: vocals) (as Bobby Tucker)
... aka Jumbo (International: English title: informal short title)
West Side Story (1961) (vocal coach) (as Bobby Tucker)
Can-Can (1960) (vocal supervisor) (as Bobby Tucker)
... aka Cole Porter's Can-Can (USA: complete title)
Gigi (1958) (vocal supervisor)
Merry Andrew (1958) (vocal supervisor)
Les Girls (1957) (vocal supervisor)
... aka Cole Porter's Les Girls (USA: complete title)
Silk Stockings (1957) (vocal supervisor)
This Could Be the Night (1957) (vocal supervisor)
Ten Thousand Bedrooms (1957) (vocal supervisor)
The Opposite Sex (1956) (vocal supervisor)
Meet Me in Las Vegas (1956) (vocal supervisor)
... aka Viva Las Vegas! (UK)
Kismet (1955) (vocal supervisor)
It's Always Fair Weather (1955) (vocal supervisor)
Deep in My Heart (1954) (choral arrangements)
Brigadoon (1954) (choral arrangements)
Rose Marie (1954) (vocal supervisor)
Kiss Me Kate (1953) (vocal supervisor)
Lovely to Look at (1952) (music arranger: vocal arrangements)
The Belle of New York (1952) (music arranger: vocal arrangements) (uncredited)
Show Boat (1951) (music arranger: vocal arrangements)
Annie Get Your Gun (1950) (vocal supervisor) (uncredited)
Stars in My Crown (1950) (vocal music arranger)
The Barkleys of Broadway (1949) (music arranger: vocal arrangements)
Take Me Out to the Ball Game (1949) (music arranger: vocal arrangements)
... aka Everybody's Cheering (UK)
Words and Music (1948) (vocal music arranger)
Easter Parade (1948) (vocal arrangements)
... aka Irving Berlin's Easter Parade (USA: complete title)
Meet Me in St. Louis (1944) (music arranger: vocals) (uncredited)

Then who am I thinking of.

He was a singer.

Died of from AIDS in the 80's

I know there are cds out there by him

Wait, I do have something to say.  I had truly hoped that Phantom 2 was a bad joke thought up by someone and spread around the internet...it seems that I was wrong.

I think it sounds like a Saturday Night Live joke or something.

....and the very first CD of a group called JaLaLa, "That Old Mercer Magic!  JaLaLa is a three-woman vocal group, made up of Janis Siegel (alto in The Manhattan Transfer), Laurel Massé (original soprano in The Manhattan Transfer) and Lauren Kinhan (I'd never heard of her before, but I found out that she is/was part of New York Voices)....

BK, since you're the Li'l Abner expert, I have a question (actually, anyone can answer, if they know).  According to the editorial review/product description of "That Old Mercer Magic!, "Standout tracks are; Spring, Spring, Spring from the Tony Award winning Broadway musical Li'l Abner..."  But that song title is not listed on either the Broadway cast recording or the movie soundtrack, nor is it in the Internet Broadway Database page for Li'l Abner.  Is this really from Li'l Abner (maybe under a different title) or was it/could it have been written for a different show by Gene DePaul and Johnny Mercer and the reviewer got his/her facts mixed up?

Isn't it from 7 Brides?

Of course it is!

DR MattH, actually I'm gonna change what i wrote above. Apparently Y&R (today's US Tues episode) was shown on the west coast. So CBS might show it sometime during the night.

So they won't be showing today's episode tomorrow (which i think they should have done). This was a key show, and a lot of people are gonna miss it. Although i guess people can watch it on cbs.com.

Or, as I said a couple of times, on SoapNet, as I did.

I began my evening of viewing with PETE KELLY'S BLUES which one of my dear friends gave me for Christmas and I hadn't gotten around to watching it until tonight. I was very impressed with the sharp, clean transfer. And wonderful singing from Ella Fitzgerald (who couldn't act AT ALL) and Peggy Lee (who could act).

After that, I put in A STAR IS BORN (1954), and boy was there a difference in transfer quality. I am SO glad Warners is working on a new transfer for the film because, althought it looked fine when it was first released, it should look so much better than it does.

I mean, PETE KELLY'S BLUES used WarnerColor. STAR IS BORN's Technicolor should look far better than this.

Next, I watched today's THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS off SoapNet. Yes, Philip finally got around to saying "the words." Now let's see the ramifications of that little revelation. Also in the previews were Rafe and Adam, so tomorrow's episode should be interesting.

And I concluded my evening by watching tonight's THE MENTALIST rerun. I hadn't watched the show since the season ended, so it was nice to revisit it again, and this episode was pretty good.

Well the COMBAT is staged - and it actually looks very good.  I am happy to have in my cast one person who knows EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING from choreography to music to costumes to hair dye for all I know.  He can be counted on to express himself loudly about all of the above subjects.

There may be a Murder In Putnam County before August.

Yes DR TCB and DR GEORGE - Kenny and T.J. are very cute and very nice and neither of them is the subject of the sentences above.  Kenny plays the Priest - DR MATT H's part, I think he has written, and T.J. is Pedro the leader of the Muleteers.

Of course both of those parts were requested by said Know It All and he has already asked both T.J. and Kenny why THEY are playing the parts instead of him....I hope he is enjoying his role in MAN OF LA MANCHA which will be a PCPH debut and swansong all wrapped up in one.

Good Evening!

It was another wonderful summer night here in NYC.  After taking care of my errands down my Union Square, I went ahead and walked back up to Columbus Circle to catch the A Train back uptown.  I was tempted to walk all the way home, but decided to save those "steps" for this weekend, when I'll be acting as tour guide for a couple of people.

I went ahead and traded in a couple more DVDs and CDs at Academy this afternoon, and was once again pleasantly surprised with my "return".

I also brought a couple of books down to The Strand to sell.  When they told me just how "little" they would give me for my books, I was almost tempted to say, "Nevermind," but I didn't feel like taking them back uptown. :-\

No DVD for me....I just remembered it's Stewart Granger night on TCM.

KING SOLOMON'S MINES is just ending and coming up two of my favorites:

MOONFLEET and BEAU BRUMMELL.....I missed SCARAMOUCHE earlier tonight, but I haven't seen BB for years, and am particularly interested in seeing it since I recently read the biography by Ian Kelly....and watched the newer movie with James Purefoy....

So...

When I talked to my cousin, Christine, earlier we set up a couple possible times to meet while she's in town.  She's coming into NYC for a bit of a vacation, and also to hang with a "new friend" who happens to live here in NYC.  I have a feeling that I'm not supposed to mention this "new friend" when I talk to her mother, my aunt. At least not yet. ;)

But I am looking forward to seeing her again.  I think it's been about 20, if not 25 years since we've seen each other.

*I called Christine's parents, my aunt and her husband, before I called Christine, and we had a very nice conversation.  And it had also been a while since I had talked to either of them.  When I talked to my aunt's husband (uncle?), we talked about my recent trip to the Philippines.  It was nice to hear that he had some of the same thoughts about some of my Mom's family as I had/have.  ;)

If I could part with books, records, or CD's - my life would be much less cluttered!

At first, I thought the whittling down of the CDs and DVDs would be a much harder process, but it turned out to be much easier and less emotional than I thought it was going to be.  There really were so many(!) CDs that I had bought purely for reference purposes when I was in college, and almost of those CDs had never been played since I was in college.  I have been burning some of them into iTunes just to have some sort of record of them, but, for the most part... They've been going into the "Sell Bag" and down to Academy.

The DVDs have been a little trickier, mainly since I've always been a bit more selective when it comes to buying DVDs since I know that I tend not to watch DVDs regularly.  However, when I came across a box of DVDs that I had bought five or six years ago... and they were still unopened and wrapped... Into the "Sell Bag".

Now I just need to go through my "boxes of stuff" and "boxes of junk".  ::)

Meet Ramin Karimloo, the Canadian actor hand-picked by Sir Andrew to play the lead role in Phantom of the Opera II: Love Never Dies

I still find it funny that we're getting a hunk to pay a role thast depends on a lot of falsetto, a ton of deformed makeup and a silly mask. Has Sir Andrew finally turned gay?

The new star is making appearances on a lot of sites today.

Well... Actually... Well...

This was my other purchase last week.  Unfortunately, I should have spent the money on photography lessons because I had a terrible time trying to take a good shot of this watch.

DR TCB - Do you have a "Macro" mode on your camera for close-ups. There's usually a little flower symbol on the camera to indicate that feature.

It didn't at first. They began filming in WarnerColor and simple widescreen. After a few days, they began again in Technicolor and Cinemascope.

Nope, I played The Duke/Dr. Carasco. The Priest is a tenor part. My voice is as far away from a tenor as it's possible to be.
