Well, you've read the notes, the notes had time and flew, and now it is time for you to post until the timely cows come home.

BK - I posted the link to the Menken/Schwartz concert videos on the All that Chat West Coast board.  The ATC West Coast listing is here

http://www.talkinbroadway.com/allthatchat/d.php?id=1750986

See if you're Ok with the format I used there for viewing your YouTube channel, which is

http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=haineshisway&view=videos#play/uploads

If so, I'll use that format for other places where I think the people would be extremely interested in this group of videos.  If not, I'll figure something else out.

Emmy nominations were announced this morning and there were BIG surprises:

No best comedy nominations for UGLY BETTY, THE BIG BANG THEORY, TWO AND A HALF MEN, or DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. Instead, FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS and WEEDS and FAMILY GUY and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER landed in the category.

No best drama nominations for GREY'S ANATOMY, THE SHIELD, RESCUE ME, '24,' THE MENTALIST, BURN NOTICE, THE CLOSER, or TRUE BLOOD. Instead, only two network shows (LOST and HOUSE) are represented with the other nominees coming from cable: BIG LOVE, MAD MEN, DEXTER, DAMAGES, BREAKING BAD.

Nice to see Jim Parsons finally win a nomination (Best Comedy Actor) but I was very disappointed for the actors in THE SHIELD, all of whom did award-winning work and who lost out to less deserving nominees.

Since I watch very little network TV, the Emmy's don't mean a lot to me, but really--six to seven nominees for each category?

Between this and the ten Best Picture nominees for the Oscars and the Tony Awards Committee cutting out the critics in voting, this is truly the year of dumbing down entertainment awards.

But doesn't the fact that you DON'T watch much network TV mean that your opinion is not really based much on the facts?

The fact is that the quality of TV dramatic shows has never been as high or rich, and they could have EASILY filled the deserving nominee slots with ten or more drama series that are truly worthy.

There are fewer comedies that I would say that about, and my own feelings about increasing the Best Picture Oscar nominees to ten is well known (I think it's absurd).

But you don't know what you're talking about in terms of drama series.

DR Matt, why don't you go back and carefully read my post, in which I said nothing about the quality of TV shows.  I was bemoaning the fact that for almost every Emmy category, there are six to seven nominees.  IMHO, no matter if there is an over abundance of sterling picks out there in TV land, when you expand the nominee pool beyond five it only serves to diminish any value of the process.  It's no longer "an honor to be nominated"--it's now just more possible.  And don't kid yourself into thinking the increase of the number of noms has anything to do with the quality of current television.  It's pure pandering--to the creators, to the producers and to the potential audience of the awards show.

As far as my not knowing what I'm talking about as far as TV is concerned, I know crap when I see it.  I don't have to step in it to insure that it's crap--I walk around it.  And 90% of TV today is crap.

Last night as I was watching STANLEY AND LIVINGSTON on TCM, it occurred to me that Charles Coburn was in every major motion picture made between 1938 and '45, with the possible exception of THE WOMEN (though I haven't completely verified that.)

But then again, I might not know what I'm talking about.

iPod:  BITTE ORCA --The Dirty Projectors (I just discovered this group--strongly influenced by the Talking Heads--very different from anything I've heard on the radio lately.)

Tivo:  THE GIRL WITH GREEN EYES -- Rita Tushinghan/Peter Finch flick that I've never seen before.

DVD:  RHODA--the First Season (picked it up for $16.99 last night at BJ's)

Yesterday, I picked up used copies of Synecdoche, New York and Brideshead Revisited (the movie) at Hollywood Video, so I'll probably be watching those over the weekend.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And have you checked your PayPal account this morning?

Seriously, two of my friends had their PayPal accounts hacked sometime during the overnight hours, and I also noticed a few reports on Twitter this morning.  So, if you have an email from PayPal saying that you took out some money - and you don't recall taking out any money - it may not be spam.

Thank you, DRs DAW and JRand, for this morning's vibes for John.  According to his youngest daughter's FB status, "It's in God's hands now."  Also, a fine medical team, we're told.

bk,

Even if you don't like LOST, you should no doubt revel in the Blu-ray presentation. Eye-popping and ear-popping in every extreme, and the first two episodes (which was the two hour pilot split in half) were given a movie sized budget, and the Blu-ray takes advantage of it with that great location photography and sound that is far and away superior to what most TV series have.

I went ahead this morning (since it's my day off from my workout) to finish THE LOVE BOAT episode I had started last night. This was the one with the three members of the Mills family.

Hayley got the worst of it being paired with the stumbling, bumbling Fred Grandy who had a crush on her but couldn't act normal in her presence (he had Walter Mitty-like daydreams where he was a gallant knight or James Bond).

Juliet was divorced from David Hedison but he was trying to reconcile.

John was Celeste Holm's chauffeur who booked passage on the cruise ship and began romancing his boss as an ordinary man, not her employee.

True to the show's light spirit, everything turned out fine for everyone.

So I'll continue watching and writing up THE LOVE BOAT today. Even if THE TOWERING INFERNO comes (and there has been no UPS truck so far this morning), I'll finish up with THE LOVE BOAT today (if I'm not overtaken by a diabetic attack due to its overly sticky sweetness).
