In fact, I think we should make this a new HHW tradition--quoting one post whilst replying to another.

I have a question for the DRs:

How long will you wait at a doctor or dental office before you walk out? I had an appointment today for a dental cleaning. It's a brand new office and some disorder is to be expected. I arrived right on time. They were running VERY late, but the worst part was the attitude of the staff--completely blase. Do I want these people cleaning my teeth? No! I waited what I felt was a reasonable time, then reminded them what time my appointment was for and walked. They offered no apology whatsoever. I'm usually quite patient, but there is a limit. How long will YOU wait?

I usually do have to wait at the doctor's office. My dentist always schedules me first thing in the morning, so he's there waiting on me when I arrive. I've never waited there.

I have never walked out of a doctor's office. I have waited for a long time, though.

Well, I believe for some DRs, that's already a "tradition".

Today I did indeed see dolphins at about 10 feet away [thrilling!] and also baby osprey.

We had spaghetti three times at our house last week.

Oh...

So, after DR elmore and I parted ways on the corner of 82nd & Broadway, I actually decided to go ahead and walk up to 85th Street to see the shuttered La Cocina for myself... :-\

On the way back down Broadway, I stopped into the newly opened location Corner Cafe & Bakery - which is not related to the national chain, The Corner Bakery.  Outside, they had a whole bunch of dinner specials listed, but I also noticed that they had a bakery case, and it turned out that they have a very nice prepared foods case.  Well...

Since I had planned to walk back down Broadway to Columbus Circle, I decided to pick up a Blueberry Lemonade to sip while I walked.  They are "shelved" with no ice, but once you order it, they put ice in it.  Well, I thought I had noticed that when the counter person went to put ice in my drink, that she had dropped the lid on the floor... OK, she'll just get a fresh lid... Instead, she picked up the lid from the floor, then rinsed it off in the sink behind the counter... Hmm...

"Did you drop the lid?"
-Yes, I did, but I rinsed it.
"You really should have gotten a fresh lid. I know the food service rules."
-Well, I did rinse it off, so it's clean now.
"Well, you really should have just gotten a new lid. That would have been much easier, and the correct thing to do."
-Well... Would you like a fresh lemonade?
"Yes, I would. Thank You."

I could tell I flustered her, but I also know that rinsing something that fell on the floor is not going to "clean" it.  I really wasn't upset.  I just wanted it done right.

-And the Blueberry Lemonade was quite good too! A perfect drink for a stroll down Broadway on a summer night in New York City.

I don't disagree one bit.  It definitely is better.

I'm just saying that, in my opinion, the difference between playing a Blu-Ray disc and a regular DVD in a Blu-Ray player is not that anything to get that excited about.

If a Blu-Ray disc is a 10, then a good regular DVD in a Blu-Ray player is certainly an 8 or 9.

Oh, boy, I'll REALLY have to disagree about that. When I first got my PS3, the first thing I did was do an A/B comparison between THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA DVD and Blu-ray. I thought the DVD looked quite wonderful until I watched the Blu-ray. Night and day difference in clarity, sharpness, color density, and detail. I used "Masquerade" as my comparison sequence, and it was shocking to me how poor the DVD looked after seeing high definition.

I'd say the difference is Blu-ray 10 and DVD 6.

I will let JR pass on the many piquante Budd Schulberg-Frances Farmer anecdotes.  ;)

Druxy, I also had to review RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN (as did MattH, I think).  While the image wasn't spectacular, it was certainly above DVD standards, IMHO, and the soundtrack was certainly better than you get on most DVDs.  Just my 2 cents.

I did indeed review it, and I thought picture and sound were both pretty splendid. And for a kiddie adventure, I thought the movie wasn't bad at all.

DR Ginny, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience at the doctor's today. I think they should realize when people have to fast for tests that many have severe reactions--some people can't safely fast! I also feel that many in the medical profession are lacking compassion and empathy. A friend and I were chatting about this earlier. I said that medical care could be greatly improved with just a change of attitude. It would still need improvement, but at least patients would feel that practitioners and their staff were really trying, really caring. Some are caring, of course, but there are so many blunders. It just frosts me. Enough of my opinion.

I hope you are home now and comfortable.

The waiting for doctors has always driven me nuts.  They always double or triple book appointments.  I don't think that's right.

I finished up the bonus features on BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA when I went back down. Richard Edlund talked close to 15 minutes about his effects work on the movie.

For all you MACers out there. There is several freeware programs that help convert you videos you have take so that they can be used on MAC.

They include Square5, Kigo Video Converter, Handbrake & Leawo.

If you have a preference what would it be?

Thanks

Next, I put in the HD-DVD of 12 MONKEYS. No, not to watch the movie. I wanted to see the 87-minute making-of featurette which I had never taken the time to watch. Quite enjoyed it.

After that I watched this week's MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST. Kathy was very funny at her photo shoot for Madame Tausseau's wax museum and for the book jacket of her book. Enjoyed the show. Next week is the season finale.

Me know not video.  But...

What kind of video format are you trying to convert?

I skimmed through today's soap operas. Adam was on (a little bit) Y&R today, but otherwise nothing of interest.

I watched last night's RESCUE ME. Not the best show of the season, but there were one or two very funny sequences, especially about Probie Sean's "carrot."

Additionally, if you still have your PC, and still have programs on there, most video formats are cross-platform.  You could always do the work on the PC, and just port it over to your Mac.

And I ended my viewing with tonight's LEVERAGE. Not one of the show's finest hours. I did empathize with the little nerdy boy who could sing. Was glad he was finally able to shine.

I have never walked out of a doctor's office though I have been tempted - I think the record wait was the three hours to get my feeding tube removed - what was most frustrasting about that was that they called me to come in early!!!
