Oh, dear. I was just sent this press release for an upcoming Fringe show -
FAR OUT-The New Sci-Fi Musical Comedy is a whacky and whimsical musical
valentine to all those grade B-sci-fi-alien-invasion movies Hollywood
made in the 1950's. It’s an intergalactic clash of worlds when the
alien Supreme Leader—a singing-eyeball-diva (with the legs and voice of
Tina Turner)—and her entourage encounter an atomic-age desert town in
the midst of the cold war, its local mad scientist, small town sheriff,
extreme-army Colonel, and Sock Hop-obsessed teens, not to mention a
pair of (literally) star-crossed young lovers.
www.faroutthemusical.comI went and listened - happily, they went exactly to the land we avoided musically - 1950s land - there is no way to do that anymore - it's just been done to death. Furthermore, they attempt to do exactly what we did in the opening number, only we did it three years ago (using movie titles in the song - the numbers, however, are completely different - and yes, they attempt a theremin - there's is fake - ours was real). I gotta tell you.
