DR TCB I would have loved to see Pearl Bailey in Hello Dolly.  Was she wonderful?

She was incredible.  And after the curtain call, she stayed out on stage and did another thirty minutes.

Oh WOW!  You were sooooooo lucky to see her.

Michael S-

"You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" Singer in The Fortune Cookie is JUDI WEST.

I was actually wondering that, too.  Thanks for the info!

Topic of the Day:  my one and only trip to New York City was in December, 1995.  I went with a local theater group and saw Swinging On a Star (first thing we did after getting off the plane!), Sunset Blvd. (with Betty Buckley...we got pictures), Victor/Victoria (with Julie Andrews!) and Beauty and the Beast.  Four of us went to see "Regis and Kathy Lee," but Kathy Lee was on vacation, so Joy Philbin was co-host.  We got a picture of us four with Regis!  I had my disposable panoramic camera and it's a very nice picture.  I'm not exactly sure where the pictures are right now, but I know I still have them.  I got a picture of Julie Andrews being escorted from the stage door to her car (no autographs for anyone) and she was wearing a cap with the logo of the then-recent revival of Company.  We also saw a special New Year's Eve performance of Tap Dogs in the village that ended at midnight.  We didn't get get back to Times Square until after most people had left, so we only got to see the aftermath. ;)

On the day before we left, I walked around mid-town by myself (I never felt unsafe) and bought a ticket to see Robeson with Avery Brooks, from a woman standing in front of the theater.  I paid the price on the ticket, $40 and it was third or fourth row center!  That was one of the BEST theatrical experiences that I have ever had.  It was just three hours of Avery Brooks telling and singing about the life of Paul Robeson...and it was fantastic.  I also went to a record store right in mid-town Manhattan and paid WAY too much for some records (including the London cast recording of 1776!) but didn't spend nearly enough time at Footlight.  We found out where it was and went on a whim and had to get back for a show.  If I'd've known, I would've made another trip out there.

Anyway, I'd love to go back...someday. :D

I saw her, too, on Broadway. She was Pearlie Mae all the way, no Dolly that I could discern. It helped that I had seen the show done legitimately by other actresses. Pearlie just played around with it. Would stop the show and complain about how her feet hurt. Would decide to reprise "So long, Dearie" on a whim.

The audience ate up every second of it, and it WAS entertaining, but it wasn't HELLO, DOLLY!

I had a nice evening of pleasing entertainment programming. I began by finishing the commentary track on THAT HAMILTON WOMAN. Very interesting track and much more about the real Emma and Nelson than info about the making of the movie.

Next, I watched MAD MEN from last night. A pretty good episode, but not as good as the season premiere. Fun to see them reacting to Ann-Margret singing "Bye Bye Birdie" and figuring out how to use something like that in a diet drink ad.

Next I watched another episode of DOLLHOUSE, a really good episode where we learned who the mole was inside the Dollhouse. Can't say I was surprised, but it was an excellent episode. Some other surprises about Viktor, too.

And I ended my evening with tonight's THE CLOSER. Good season ender though there wasn't much of a mystery involved in the case.

Well, it's time for me to do a little shopping.  I need to get some cat food (both dry and canned).  So that's what I'll do before I go home.

Until later.

Does the article say who bought it, Megan? I wonder if someone bought it for his own future use, or if someone bought it for someone else.

And they say there is a recession.

It doesn't say who bought it, I believe it was an anonymous bid because of the dollar amount. It says the woman whose husband is in the crypt currently auctioned it off to pay $1.2million she owes on her house.

I wish I had $4.6 million dollars to spend... dang.

My work project for tomorrow is completely up in the air. I'm expecting Disney's Blu-ray of EARTH. Fox may get around to sending the Blu-ray of season one of LIE TO ME (though I'm not first in line to get to do it).

The next disc set I have in my queue already here is CRIMINAL MINDS: Season Four.

So, I'm not really sure what I'll be working on tomorrow. But I WILL be working; it won't be a day off. September is a heavy, heavy month for TV box sets, so days off are going to be non-existent this month and next month, I suspect.

And, yes, I LOVE that photo too!

*Daniel asked me if I preferred that he not post it publicly (on his Flickr account), just in case I wanted to preserve the "magic" of Monkey.  Nah! It's a great pic, and there's still some "magic".

It is very magical to see the man behind the Monkey photos.

And Monkey seems to be posing with no help from any human intervention.  Really makes it more magic, imho

I'm the first reporter back from the wonderful dinner at the home - it's really a salon - of our DR FJL and the Mighty Skip Kennon, chef, composer and raconteur par excellence. The dinner was great, ending with the most wonderful blueberry pie I have ever had the luck to encounter for dessert. The prime reason for its being such a fantastic event was the guest list. Our BK was in great form, and so many of my favorite New York acolytes were there - vixmom and the vixter, Jose, Ben, the promising-to-return Rodzinski and Julie, and the fabulous hosts who epitomize hospitality and generosity.

I had my first wine tonight in six weeks. so if I have forgotten anyone, blame it on the wine  and not my encroaching senility.

Can't wait for Wednesday as I would probably forget about them by then.

THREE QUESTIONS FOR BK

I have been watching the Two's Company DVD and had to go on-line to refresh my memory where certain songs were from.

In the Variety review, it said that Kevin Spirtas sang "Proud Lady" but it is not on the DVD. Why not?

And for curiosity sake
Also there were several singers listed as appearing, but they did not. Were their songs dropped or were they given to others?

And I may have missed your answer yesterday, but who sings You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To on The Fortune Cookie soundtrack?

We dropped Proud Lady - not enough rehearsal time for Kevin.  I don't think there were "several" singers listed who didn't appear unless you saw a VERY early list - Vicki Lewis was to do I Want To Be A Rockette but dropped out the day before the show, at which point I gave the song to one of our ensemble members.

No one who listens to Judi West's speaking voice think it's her singing - we all think it's a dub job.

The get-together was absolutely faboo - everyone was in fine form, dish was dished, food was served and was, as always, divoon - flank steak, some sort of goat cheese tart (and I've known a few of THOSE in my day), mozzarella and tomatoes (there's a name for it but I can't remember), and the most yummilicious fresh blueberry pie a la mode.  Much food was consumed.  The conversation was lovely, and it was quite a lovely treat to see and chat with Rodzinski again.  I have photographs, but am a little too tired to deal with them at the moment - either later tonight or in the morning.  Must now write the notes.

Interesting Variety reviewed the show that included Kevin's singing of Proud Lady! :-)

The other people from an earlier list (I presume) were Rita McKenzie & Terry Trotter & Sara Rue.

Yes, Rita, Terry, and Sara all dropped out early on, along with Jason Graae and several others.  Pink Fish is my Alan Menken - both music and lyrics - it's not from anything.
