The pastor's wife stopped by to play with kittens, and we were quite dismayed that Antonia hissed and wriggled to get away from her. She needs some work!

I warned you about Torties needing extra handling ;)

Elmore has a thing for hair. He is always climbing onto our necks and playing in our hair -- he did this to the pastor's wife, too.

Cute.

I had some wonderful peach ice cream for dessert today. I hadn't had any in quite a long time, and it was a very refreshing change from my usual chocolate (when I indulge in ice cream at all).

I had not had any ice cream for months until I started having these physical problems, and then I decided I needed some comfort food to lift my spirits.

My afternoon surf went by quite quickly so I'm ready to head back down and get started back with CRIMINAL MINDS.

As for the Topic of the Day...

The Carlyle in Arlington, VA, used to feature a "Mile High Ice Cream Pie" on their menu.  Sadly, they stopped serving it after their first year in business.  It was basically a conglomeration of fudge, chocolate chip cookies and three flavors of ice cream.  And it may not have been a "mile high", but it was at least a foot and a half.  -But it was a very thin slice. ;)

Then I hope something startled her & she is one of the sweet cuddly Torties, that do exist occasionally ;).  Heck, she might not have liked the woman's perfume.
Hmmm, is she usually cuddly with people she doesn't know?

TOD:

Can't remember specifically the best pie I ever ate.  There was a place near where I used to work that made a pretty mean Chocolate Cream pie.

But my favorite flavor of pie, hands down, is strawberry rhubarb.  The combination of tangy sour and sweet can't be beat!!!       :)

Sounds a bit like you!

I dropped my big announcement at last night's event, and here's the news for everyone who could not be there. I will be working on the Broadway revival of FINIAN'S RAINBOW as the orchestrator for the  adjustments being made for the production. I love Rob Berman, the musical director, and I'm very honored to be asked to work on the show. I loved it at Encores!

How exciting!  Congratulations to DR elmore!

Wasn't that a name of an animate feature about dog in the far north?

RE: PINK FISH

Menken is also talented lyric writer too. I wonder why he hasn't done more scores on his own.

I would like to also recommend Daughter of God. I know of only two recordings, Alix Korey: Songs You Might Have Missed (Skip is also on this cd) and Debbie Gravitte on her Menken CD

My pies.

I can't say I ever had the ultimate pie , but I do like Boston Cream Pie (It is the frozen pie section at least at my supermarket) and chocolate pie.

Quote from Matt H. last night:
Quote
I saw her, too, on Broadway. She was Pearlie Mae all the way, no Dolly that I could discern. It helped that I had seen the show done legitimately by other actresses. Pearlie just played around with it. Would stop the show and complain about how her feet hurt. Would decide to reprise "So long, Dearie" on a whim.

The audience ate up every second of it, and it WAS entertaining, but it wasn't HELLO, DOLLY!

Matt H., I don't doubt your memory of the Pearl Bailey performance that you saw, because I have read a great many similar accounts over the years.  I don't know what could account for the difference, but Ms. Bailey's performance that I saw at the St. James Theatre was all Dolly Levi, and absolutely no Pearlie Mae.  She literally lit up the stage and she and Cab Calloway were perfectly cast against each other.  The only break in the performance was the eating scene in Harmonia Gardens, but her few off the cuff remarks were far less than I have seen some Dollys do.

I can't explain the difference between the two shows.  I don't if it had anything to do with where in the run she was, whether she was tired at the end of the week or fresh at the beginning, or even if it came from doing two-a-day; but she gave an electrifying performance the night I saw the show.  And the HELLO DOLLY number literally stopped the show.

And she didn't even know that I was going to be there that night.

RE: BUSKER ALLEY article in playbill

And I quote:  "Due to the loss of one member of the writing team and the health issues of another, it is with great regret that we withdraw from this project."

So wouldn't that be A J Carothers who wrote the book>

And I am sure the health issues has to be one of the Sherman Brothers. And my guess it would be Robert who is 84 and when I have see inetrviews with him he doesn't seem well.

Richard is 81.

I wonder why they just don't mention the names??

Topic of the Day:  my most favorite kinds of pies in general are (in no particular order) pecan, blueberry, cherry, coconut cream and chocolate cream...but there are others.  Honorable mention does go to Boston cream pies. ;)

My sister (the vegetarian) and my niece (the vegan) go to this local vegan bakery and get this blueberry pie that they just love.  Me...not so much.  I don't know what they put in it, but it has some flavor in addition to the blueberry that I am just not fond of. :P
