Then, since I realized that today was the last day of Blues, Brews & BBQ - or is it "Brews, Blues & BBQ"? - I went ahead and had some more barbeque today.  Since I had had a pulled pork sandwich yesterday, I opted for some ribs today - just a "3-bone sampler".  They were good, but not stellar - I think they needed just a few more minutes in the smoker.  However, the sauces were quite tasty.

*And I believe it was the first funnel cake that I've had in 10-12 years.  It was well worth the wait. :)

I have spent most of the day sleeping because I have developed a quick-onset nasty cold on top of my seasonal allergies, and to be vertical is to be miserable.         :P

As for the Topic of the Day...

There's almost too many artists and too many individual works to list.  However...

Almost anything in the French galleries at the Art Institute of Chicago.
Almost anything on the fourth and fifth floors of MoMA.
Most of the East Wing of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.

Etc., etc., etc.... ;)

DR elmore - You may have already done so, but have you checked out the Diaghilev exhibit at NYPL Performing Arts Library at Lincoln Center?  Lots of great sketches and costumes.  -And prompt books, letters, annotated scores, manuscripts...

DR JRand - Since an actor is not normally supposed to eat and drink in costume, just go over to your stage manager with a cup of coffee in hand... And "accidentally" trip on something... And "accidentally" spill the coffee on her laptop... Then just walk away.  No "I'm sorry".

Back from Lowes (instead of Home Depot). Bought a leaf blower, some fill dirt, and other assorted macho types of things.

Be still my heart! ;)

DR elmore - Alas, the recently closed exhibit at MoMA, "Drawing for the Stage", included orignal sketches by Mssrs. Smith, Benois and Messel.

Well, I need to leave.  I have to take a shower, get dressed, call the work number of the phone that I found (I'm surprised that the owner hasn't call his/her own phone!) and work concessions for Wrinkles of Washington - Mystery at Hornsby Manor.  After that, I'm going to my sister's to visit with the family and the cousins who came up from Oregon.  They're leaving tomorrow morning, so this'll be the last chance to visit with them.  They only arrived yesterday, so they aren't here for very long, anyway.

Well, George, it isn't like they traveled from Siberia!  They are only visiting from Oregon.

I have one of these, too.  I played the Grand Inquisitor in The Lark, by Jean Anouilh (sp?).  As you may know, the GI sits there for the entire play, and then delivers a gigantic (like, 10-15 minute) monologue at the end of the play, after which the henchman comes in and leads Joan of Arc to her fate.  Well, I sat there and then delivered my monologue and then of course no henchman.  Gave my cue again.  No henchman.  Made a quick decision and ad libbed something to one of the "church officials" and told them to take Joan off to her little roasting party.  After the show went back and discovered (are you ready?), the henchman had missed his cue because, as he appeared on stage shirtless, he had been drawing chest hair on his chest with an eyebrow pencil.

Hmmmm... That reminds of a fit of giggles that afflicted the First National Company of Les Miserable at the Kennedy Center during the "Wedding Round".  I really can't go into specifics on this family site, but I will say that the following were involved: ensemble woman, va-jay-jay hair, scissors and spirit gum.

No, and I want to do it. When Nijinsky choreographed "Le sacre du printemps," the dancers counted the 5/4 section as "ser-gei dia-ghi-lev."

This morning I made the impulse purchase of the new Beatles Abbey Road and St. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.  I wanted to be transported back to that time in my life, but something is different.  The memory and sound are not the same.

Oh well.

There have been a lot of resports of things just not sounding "the same".  Yes, the recordings may be "cleaned up" and "clearer", but that, in essence, makes them different.

I guess I should really say that my favorite artist would have to be Michelangelo.  The thing I am looking forward to most about my trip in November (other than being away from my F---ing office) is seeing The Sistine Chapel, The Pietŕ, and the stautue of David.  The thought of actually seeing these works of art in person, is totally beyond my wildest dreams.

I had a pretty good day so far with only a couple of muscle cramping incidents in my right hand. When I got up this morning, my hand felt close to normal, but later on the cramping returned, and then it ebbs and returns throughout the day.

I watched an NCIS episode while I was waiting to begin cooking lunch. It had a Marine family under attack and Gibbs thinking it was some kind of terrorist plot. Turned out that the trouble was a lot closer to home.

While I ate lunch, I watched last night's episode of PSYCH. Enjoyed Shawn taking the lead on the case, and certainly loved Stephen Lang in his guest star role.

I watched the second CASTLE episode, the one about the murder of the nanny. Some fun banter between the two leads.
