I guess I have been rather E & T for major parts of the weekend.  In addition to 9/11 being, well, 9/11; it also was the first anniversary of when I dropped my friend Stan off at the hospital for what was supposed to be a rather routine gastoral surgery.

Today I stopped by the house to pick up the mail for Mark, and I realzied that Stan never got to return to his beloved house.

I made it back alive from the birthday party. It was at a kids indoor playpark. And all the kids screamed and went on the slides like crazy people.

After it was over i realized i was starving. All i had all day was one muffin and 4 grapes. I didn't even get to eat during the party.

I went to my sister's house afterwards to see megan open her presents (there was no time at the place since you had to be out in 2 hours).

One bad thing happened before the party. I had to drive over with my dad. And even though he knows not to wear cologne, he had just shaved.

I knew from before i got in the car that it was going to bother me.

But the ride was only going to be 10 minutes. And i thought it would be okay.

But as soon as the car started i knew i was in trouble. Even with the windown open my eyes were watering so bad i was practically crying.

My throat started closing up (not so i couldn't breathe but just so could feel it).

It was horrible. But then i found that if i completely blocked my nose i was okay. So for the last 5 minutes i was good.

DR Jennifer you must remember to hold your nose from now on.  I also find covering my face helps, as embarrassing as it in to do so in public.  Another trick I have is to put a little of my perfume on my wrist and then put my wrist to my nose so I don't smell whatever will bother me.

Glad the party was fun, though what a shame she couldn't open the presents there.

I got an emergency phone call from Ron Raines, who's doing a concert with Don Pippin and some other singers in Omaha. He needed me to grab a tape and get the DATELINE piece on the demise of THE GUIDING LIGHT. His big day, I hear, is this Wednesday.

Speaking of THE GUIDING LIGHT, TV Guide had a nice photo of the entire current cast of the show.  It would have been nice if they had provided the names of all of the actors and their current roles on the show.

We saw a sign today on one of the newer restaurants in town:

"SORRY WE ARE OPEN"

I wish I had my camera with me ;D

The restaurant was closed.  We never see it open anymore so I just called.  Seems they stopped doing lunch, not that we really care. The one lunch we had there wasn't very good.  I asked the guy on the phone if he knew what the sign reads.  I could hear him blushing over the phone as he laughed.

DR Jane, I saw the same sign somewhere recently, I can't remember where

Callie stopped eating and drinking water this morning and was clearly very uncomfortable this afternoon, so we made an "emergency" (read after hours so more expensive) trip to the vet. (a different vet on call for my vet...) He gave her fluids, an antibiotic shot as a preventive measure and tried to loosen things up.  He said the problem is her bone structure not megacolon and they'll have to put her under to clear the obstruction.   I could have told him that.

Callie is home and resting comfortably now.  I'll take her to the vet at 8:00 AM  She's been very healthy for a long time. Neither of the vets could believe we went 2 years without a similar incident.

Poor Callie. So is her problem solved now? Or does she go in tomorrow for treatment?

Back from a lovely time at my friend's birthday tea and a visit at my Mom's with my sister and brother-in-law, who arrived yesterday for a stay of several days.

I'm glad to read that DR DAW is feeling better and sorry to read that things aren't going well for DR Laura's and DR Cillaliz's kitties.

Callie will be going in tomorrow morning, I have little doubt about that.  The vet tongiht said that it will be necessary.  The goal today was to make her comfortable, give her fluids and antibiotics so she doesn't get sicker.  I'll take her in no matter what happens tonight, just to be sure she's ok

This is the same routine we went through a couple years ago, only Callie is a lot healthier now.  I'm concerned but not overly worried. What was so bad last time was that the former vet gave her enemas that are toxic to cats.
