Apparently lifting pots of gold develops strong thigh muscles.

So does living in the woods with no commode and subsisting on a low-fiber diet.

That's just how my mind works, DR Kerry.

And all of us DRs are the beneficiaries!          :D

You know in all the thousands of times I've seen that pic, I don't think I ever noticed before how relentlessly she's clutching her cigarette case in that right hand, LOL.

Quite the recalcitrant and rambunctious lass.

Yes don't take the ciggies.  They have already removed her shoes.

And I think this happened momentarily after she was denied her right to make a phone call.....probably to Louella Parsons to give her the scoop.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And a good night's sleep was exactly what I needed.  I think the activity of the past couple of days - the two days in Philly, the unexpected trek out to Coney Island on Sunday and then the last-minute trip out to City Island on Monday night - just caught up with me. Rest is a good thing.

DR Jose, Ioana (ee-wa-na) is the best I can do.  As awkward as it is here, it is a rather common name in Romania.

What?  However...  I actually know two Ioana's here in NYC.

DR JMK I always thought it was a clutch purse....but I think you are right.  In fact I think it's a pack of Lucky Strike Greens or Phillip Morris cigs with a book of matches.

Oh... After scrolling back a bit, I think I get it now.  I think.

Moving on...

As I said, I didn't mind the plot of Vantage Point, I just thought it was poorly done.  Liked the actors and the running time, which I also said.  I just must have missed the "entertainment" part :)

Scary page Two Finian's Rainbow Dance.  Not from DR ELMORE's show - but from the Harlem Repertory Theatre.

Hmmm... Now I'm trying to figure out if the HRT production of Finian's Rainbow is somehow "related" to the soon-to-open Broadway production.  -And/or the Encore's presentation and/or of the Irish Repertory productions (the two-piano one).

Is this YOU DR ELMORE?

Yes, DR JRand59, it is. I agree with you about the glorious score, but unlike you, I find the story a wonderful mix of whimsy, blarney, politics, and social criticism. I appreciate your wish for my Tony nomination, but I've only scored about 70 bars of music and the rest of the orchestrations are by two men I feel quite inferior to, Russell Bennett and Don Walker.

I see my favorite recording of the show is now out of print, but the Amazon Marketplace has several copies "used-like new" for a good price. I'm hoping we get a recording.

You'll absolutely get a new recording IF the producers pay for it.  That's the way it works these days, so if they've put the money in the budget, then either Ghostlight or PS Classics will have it.

Now about those lyrics....

As I said my opinion is NOT based on the stage show - just the IDEA of the show and the movie.

So I will ask DR ELMORE - since I can't figure out one of the lines of lyrics in THIS TIME OF THE YEAR.

Help....

Magnolias are sentimental
Persimmons are queer.
*********************
This time of the year.

What the hell are they singing in the third line?

"Snapdragons won't pay no rental
This time of the year"

Our company manager had forgotten yesterday she had the press event at noon so I'm going downtown around 1:30. I just put in the new plywood shelf and all is good.

Thank you.  Now I can sing the WHOLE sing along with the soundtrack CD!

And after checking out the website of Harlem Repertory Theatre, it appears they presented The Wiz this past summer too.  -Although, I don't recall seeing any press or posters for said production, and I live just a couple of blocks from their theatre.

They also have an upcoming Yip Harburg Festival listed on their season schedule, as well as a production of Flahooley!

I should add that another orchestrator in the business who does a lot of revivals gets those jobs by putting down the original orchestrators to the producers and powers-that-be as "generic 40s" or "generic 50s" hack work. I think it's great they give him a chance to do "generic millenium" new ones.

DR DERBRUCER - I looked for "the forgotton" on my TV schedule, but could only find "The Forgotten".  I'm guessing that's the same thing. ;)

Harburg's family lives in Portland now.  They did a big article on them when some high school did Wizard of Oz a couple of years ago.
