So...

For reasons unknown, I'm watching the Matthew Broderick "Music Man" on Ovation.  It was bad the first time I saw it, and it's even worse now.  It's just like cheese: some improve with age, while others just rot.

That's the problem with remaking a classic.

Hmmm... Just checking Ovation TV's schedule for the rest of the week. -It looks like my DVR will be going into overdrive this week.

*And now on "Mr. Prince", they're showing a rehearsal clip from the upcoming Paradise Found featuring Shuler Hensley and Kate Baldwin (from the current Finian's Rainbow, with Nick Archer on piano.

Sunday afternoon greetings!  We're back from Lima and I'd hoped to have an email message or 2 in reply to the NYC apartment inquiries I'd made Friday evening and yesterday.  Nada, so I guess I'll have to get on the phone.

Another location opinion from NYC folks - how's the area around 48th St. and 11th Ave. and the walk to there from Times Square?

I absolutely cannot stand that Matthew Broderick/MUSIC MAN. I knew he was miscast when it was first announced, but I watched it hoping I might be wrong. I wasn't. He was about as terrible as any star I've ever seen in a leading role. As for Kristin Chenoweth, her costumes dominated her. She's so tiny, and those period designs just seemed to overwhelm her.

Hmmm... That's quite a trek any time of the day. 10th Ave. is OK, but 11th Ave. is practically New Jersey. ;)  There's also really nothing around there except for some car dealerships and the West Side Highway.

DR Jane, you are much too young to have a 30-year old son. I hope Craig has a wonderful birthday.

A phone call prevented my going downstairs and watching Brett/Holmes. That'll have to be tomorrow morning, I expect.

So, I fixed lunch and watched Friday night's MONK while I ate. An OK episode, but I guessed the killer easily. Very difficult for writers to pull off plots based around the murder premise of Agatha Christie's ABC MURDERS.

I then started on my work project for the day, MONSOON WEDDING.

It's an ambitious comedy-drama that tries to juggle maybe one too many stories within its confines. Certainly was intrigued by some of the stories, however, and it pulls you in as it runs.

I had enough time to sample the commentary and watch all of the bonus features on disc one. I'll do disc two when I go back down in a while.

It's a walk! Eleventh Avenue seems awfully deserted after dark.

Thanks, DRs Jose and Elmore!  Your comments are about what I expected.  It's more remote than I'd like, but we have an opportunity through church for a decent rate at the new hotel that's opened there.  I'm going to continue investigating some other options, but need to get back to our church connection by mid-week.

So, yesterday I went to see an Off Broadway show called The Night Watcher, which was very good.

But there was a man in the audience who I don't think took a shower for two or three weeks.  He smelled so badly that all of the patrons seated around him needed to be re-seated by the House Manager.   The man ended up sitting in the front row by himself, with everyone else needing to be moved back to whatever random seat happened to be open.  Should not the theater have asked the very smelly man to leave, instead?

They should have!  In the words of Mr. Spock, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few...or the one."

I'm hopping off-line now to get some writing done, and then I'll head back down to finish today's work project and then wait for some wonderful prime time entertainment.

And now onto "Mr. Prince" on Ovation... Hmmm.... -Hal Prince, that is. -Lots of good pics and clips from his oeuvre.

Several years ago, Comcast (here in western Washington) used to carry Ovation, but they don't anymore. :P

Cason arrived at ten and we got all the packages addressed and stamped very quickly.  He was out of here by twelve-thirty.  I then finished typing up my fifteen pages of notes and sent them off.  I'm lunching in an hour with former dear reader Hisaka - wasn't really in the mood for seeing anyone today, but she may be heading back to Japan so I'm doing it.

DR Jane (and others) re: the comments last night about why don't i splurge and buy my favorite author's book.

Well ideally obviously I would. But I read a lot and get all my books from the library. In the case of the book she is signing it is book 13 (or something like that) in a series (i have read them all but don't own the others).

In this economy, even though i love to read. i'm fine with being able to read all the books i want (just having to return them to the library when i'm done).

I understand why you use the library instead of purchasing, in fact I'm using the library more and more these days.  I just think it would be nice for you to have an autographed copy since she is your favorite author.  It might be too late to find one at a used book store, still I would call a few a check if you have them nearby.

Apparently she is only signing the newest book which just came out this week. And you have to have bought at the chain the signing is being held at.

Happy Birthday to Craig!

Btw, DR Jane, my library lets you make requests for books they don't have. And they buy a lot of them. So i really can't complain!
