Hello, gentle DRs!

I am hopelessly behind on notes & posts.  Just dropping in to say "Hi!"

The family reunion for the DH's family yesterday was quite an event!  Great stories and photos.

Today in southern Minnesota it is grey and snowing.  We fly back tomorrow night.

Hope all is well with all of you.  Be good!

Remember - today's Columbus Day.  No mail, no banking, etc.

Oh, POOK!   I had stuff to mail, too.

Just returned from an emergency run to CVS for a new curling iron - mine would not heat up this morning and the straight-hair look is not for me!

If Ron Pulliam gets to rant about men's pants, then I get to rant about women's pants.

Not all of us are skinny 20-year-olds who look good with those low pants, you know.

(though I do think that thongs do have their place in society, but only as entertainment.)

As long as the "entertainment" isn't the Little Miss Slut contests so popular for 5-6 year olds!

But, the true tragedy of this younger generation's ignorance is that they don't care.

No, the real tragedy is that their parents don't care, and don't care that their kids don't care!

I think what scares me the most is the large number of people who never read a book.

Much of that is caused by the fact that the kids are being raised to see reading a book as a homework chore. They have not been exposed to adults reading for pleasure. I have an on-going battle with my DIL who refuses to let the 12 year old read "trash" that is not "up to grade level". (This kid regularly scores at least 3 years ahead of his grade level on reading tests.)

My first exposure to "reading for pleasure" was having my "only finished eighth grade" father read the Sunday Comics to me.

I don't recall seeing those sagging pants on older women....or younger ones, for that matter.

If we need a rant about what women wear, let's rant about those women whose idea of fashion-consciousness has them out in public wearing too-tight blouses/tops that expose every seam of their bra straps, every fold of fat on their torso and whose too-tight pants create deep crevices in their butt cracks.  Some have no panty lines, so they must be wearing thongs...and some have panty lines so clear one can see how tightly into their butts  the panties cut.

I'm all about comfort...and wearing clothes that allow my pores to breathe freely...and not offending the sensibilities of even THE most jaded passersby.

A major crane accident in Philly - Rittenhouse Square - not too far from Dan's work-hood.

I LIKE panty lines.  Somehow in the 20th century, women survived just fine with them.  But now they really want their ASSES to to be revealed to the world.  And listen carefully - what do you think that big triangle that's leading down to your ASS is?  Why, it's a different shaped panty line, that's what it is.  Of course, equally popular, even more so now, and yes they had them for the toddlers, are g-strings to avoid the triangle.

Maybe they can start making Pampers with a thong painted on!

Back from the dentist - the shot of Novocain was really annoying today and I have rechristened it Novopain.  The actual re-filling of the ancient cavity was quick and painless.  But I'm numb and groggy and cranky right now.

Not sagging pants on women -- the very very low cut. So that your belly shows if you are wearing a t-shirt.

My post on the touring company of "South Pacific" a week ago indicated my believe the national tour would not begin until 2010 (because I read it somewhere).

Actually, the tour continues in November and here is the complete (as of now) schedule:

The tour schedule for South Pacific follows:

San Francisco, CA (Sept. 18-Oct. 25 at the Golden Gate Theatre)
Raleigh, NC (Nov. 3-8 at the Memorial Auditorium)
Charlotte, NC (Nov. 10-15 at the Belk)
Greenville, SC (Nov. 17-22 at the Peace Center)
Chicago, IL (Nov. 24-28 at the Rosemont Theatre)
Dallas, TX (Dec. 15-Jan. 3, 2010 at the Center for the Arts)
West Palm Beach, FL (Jan. 5-10, 2010 at the Kravis Center)
Tampa, FL (Jan. 12-17, 2010 at Tampa Bay PAC)
Melbourne, FL (Jan. 19-24, 2010 at the King Center)
Seattle, WA (Jan. 29-Feb. 21, 2010 at the 5th Avenue Theatre)
Lincoln, NE (Feb. 25-27, 2010 at the Lied Center)
San Antonio, TX (March 2-7, 2010 at the Majestic)
Houston, TX (March 9-21, 2010 at the Hobby Center)
Memphis, TN (March 23-28, 2010 at the Orpheum Theatre)
Fayetteville, AR (March 30-April 4, 2010 at the Walton Arts Center)
Atlanta, GA (April 6-11, 2010 at the Fox)
Schenectady, NY (April 14-18, 2010 at Proctors)
Hartford, CT (April 20-25, 2010 at the Bushnell)
East Lansing, MI (April 27-May 2, 2010 at the Wharton)
St. Paul, MN (May 4-16, 2010 at the Ordway)
Des Moines, IA (May 18-23, 2010 at the Civic Center)
Los Angeles, CA (May 27-July, 17, 2010 at the Ahmanson)
Denver, CO (July 20-Aug. 1 at the Denver Center)

My gosh!  I take walks that way all the time (not today, though.)

THere are currently a number of larger cranes at work around the city.  They make me nervous.

And speaking of Finian's Rainbow...

Here's Cheyenne Jackson's First VLog.  *Accompanied by one of the least flattering pics/screen-shots of Cheyenne Jackson I've ever seen.

*It's a relatively long clip, just a little over 16 minutes. But it does include some backstage shots, as well as some of the tech rehearsals.

Am I imagining it, or is there a quick glimpse of Mr Jackson's dance belt on his dressing room table?  And if it is, why is there a grommet in it?

I think that's his mic pack - which can look like a dance belt.

It has continued raining on and off all afternoon. We needed this rain, so I'm not complaining, and it's very chilly, too. Quite a change for the weekend when it was getting back to summertime temperatures.

He likely will not. This has been an expensive summer for me, very expensive with the hospital/doctor/PT bills, A/C repair, new roof on the back of the house. The $70 a ticket for a show I have seen on tour twenty years ago plus several times in local theater productions just isn't in the cards. I'm sure it's a lovely, even memorable production of the show, but if I'm going to send $70, I'd rather it be for the tour of JERSEY BOYS which is also coming through here this season. It may not be SOUTH PACIFIC, but at least I've never seen it before.

I watched last night's BROTHERS & SISTERS while I ate lunch. Good show with some tear-inducing sequences. And next week our hunk-of-hunks joins the cast for a 5-episode story arc.
