If you are a "registered" Catholic and contact your diocesan office, they can sometimes arrange special tours for you.

Not necessarily.     :(

Oh... There is that "in good standing" thingy.  -However, a friend of mine - who is gay - went to Italy a few weeks ago to celebrate his 40th birthday, and he and his friends - four gay guys and a lesbian (not DR JMK) -  were given an almost-all-access tour of the Vatican.  ???  I'll check to see who he made the arrangements through.

I could kick myself that I didn't decide to go to Rome one day earlier.  I could have easily left on Wednesday instead of Thursday, since Wednesday is a holiday.  It never occured to me that the Vatican would be closed all day on Sunday (It is a church!), and that they would be closed a half day on Saturday.  So, I have now purchased a 10:30 a.m. Saturday ticket for a two hour Vatican / Sistine Chapel tour.

Anything else I get to see will be gravy, I guess.

I am not even an unregistered Catholic.  I am a Methodist.

Well, if they actually followed those rules, half of the Cardinals wouldn't be allowed into the Vatican.

DR Jane, I keep thinking....did Yogi have a visa? I think I've been working too much

LOL.  You aren't working too much.  He needed a passport as did Kitty when she came.
A passport?  So he has a Romanian passport with his photo and a visa in it?

Good morning, all! I'm checking in to let you know I am not dead and to disappoint my critics. I do not feel terrible, but my head is clogged up, and I am so hoarse I cannot speak a sentence.

I think my favorite Johnny Mercer lyrci may be "My Shining Hour."

Margaret Whiting has a very poignant story about singing this to the soldiers before they went off to war. But alas, she is old and some people are of the opinion that viewers don't like to look at old people.

Not sure about the photo part.  Before a pet travels between countries, at least the U.S.A. they need to be checked by a vet and forms filled out in order to receive the passport.  Then there is a a very limited time the passport is good for once the vet signs off.

I actually kind of liked SWING VOTE.  Not a great film by any measure, but good performances and one which didn't answer the ultimate question at the end, which I really liked.
this one I've got to ageee with him.

James?

Once again my scintillating humor deflates like a Heine balloon.  ;)

I laughed. And laughed some more.

A great singer with a great story to share, such a shame it wasn't included.

I will say that Margaret Whiting looked and sounded better in the Mercer documentary than she did in the Jack Wrangler documentary.

I imagine Yogi wouldn't get approved and would have to use cash.

Yes, but we had a very annoying guidance counselor in junior high school who used to say (not sing) that all the time, so I think of her when I hear it and it sort of ruins the song for me, .lol

That interview was done @ 3 years ago by the original producer. Ah, if only...

Greg recorded the sound---they did the interview in her apartment and he got to meet Jack, too. She is a sweet lady.

You mean to say that Jack Wrangler has been documented?  :o

Wow! We don't hear things like that here!  ;)

Did she sing one of his songs?  ::)

If any DR sees the new A Christmas Carol, please let us know what you think.  I liked The Polar Express, so will probably check out the new movie once it is released on video.

The singer on the soundtrack ruins it for me...runs in the family, I guess. J.M is the definitive version.
