In answer to DR Jose, the crew only had to suffer listening to insane lines of questioning that had nothing to do with the subject of the film, but I'm sure they were treated well. The problem with he shoots was that they became a big photo op where he could invite everyone he wanted to impress, had their photos taken with C.E., tons of people milling around a studio and wandering thru the backgrounds of all the shots. This distracted the crew from doing their job, consequently there were a lot of problems with the timecodes and synch issues. The director was not paying attention and asked Jamie if he had played a certain part of OLD BLACK MAGIC. When he said he'd already played it, the director's response was "uh...well...play it again!"
This shoot went way over time and budget.
The shoot they threw together with T. Bennett and Brubeck was shot so badly that Bennett wouldn't give his permission for it to be used. Part of that was residual dissatisfaction about the way the Bennett doc by the same director turned out. That one is probably better because he wouldn't have the nerve to bully C.E.'s editors to get his way.
That said, I found something likeable about the director---he gave us a lot of good stories and catch phrases. And his cologne is indelibly imprinted on my passenger's side seatbelt, even months later!
