Actually, this is one of those rare times when we shall not be at Chez Skip and Fred. Fred and I are meeting a visiting out of town friend at a restaurant for dinner.

Ah, TCB. I lived/worked in Italy 9 1/2 years in my military career. Had I known much earlier that you were going to be spending time there, I'd have prepared a briefing sheet "for your eyes only" on things to see and do, interesting Italian expressions, etc. Did you by any chance see the house of the Vetti brothers in Pompeii? There is a very (in)famous mural there of Priapus using his "asset" on a set of scales. It clearly came out in his favor although the other side of the scale was heaped with gold or some other commodity of value. LOL.

Damn, Ron, I am sorry I missed that mural! I should have remembered that you were stationed in Italy for quite a while. That was in Naples wasn't it? Hey, maybe you know Davide?

It used to be quite an extensive test. My friend Hal auditioned for this and for JEOPARDY. He's one of the smartest, most well read people I know with a broad range of knowledge in all fields, and he didn't make it on either show.

I saw Finian's Rainbow Saturday and enjoyed it immensely! Thy cast is first-rate! I had never seen Kate Baldwin or Jim Norton before and thought they were just great! Terri White has that show-stopping number, or course, and Christopher Fitzgerald is just perfect (and hilarious) as the leprechaun. When I was walking back to my seat after intermission I thought that the man in front of me looked familiar. Sure enough, it was Joel Grey! I thought of approaching him, but didn't want to bother him.

I'll definitely try and see the show again.

Gotta go --I have a doctor's appointment.

That is so funny. Years ago when my friends and I say Disney's AIDA, Joel Grey was in the audience that night, and I passed by him going to the lobby and just said, "Oh, I've enjoyed you in so many projects through the years," and he said, "Thank you very much." I didn't waylay him or try to stop him because I know celebrities going to a show don't usually want their evenings interrupted with fan gushings.

I watched BANG THE DRUM SLOWLY late this morning. I had never seen this version, and Paul Newman and Albert Salmi were so moving (particularly the latter; can't believe he didn't get an Emmy nomination.)
