Well, you've read the notes, the notes gave thanks, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they just want to bring on the damn turkey.

I found a Norman Rockwell website that had some of his Thanksgiving images.  Here's one from 1917:

This is my Thanksgiving story, a tale that my family will never let me forget.

I love Thanksgiving.  I have very warm childhood memories of that holiday.  Every year, we would have a family gathering at our home.  My aunt, uncle and two cousins, as well as my half-brother Hersh and his family were always there.

We'd sit around the table and, after everybody had stuffed themselves, people would tell jokes.  My uncle, Kenneth, was the #1 storyteller, but on this particular year, I also decided to contribute to the merriment...with disastrous results.

I think it was 1954.  I would have been thirteen-years-old.

Without contemplating the consequences, I told this very funny joke that I'd heard at school, and I told it very well.

Correction!  I didn't just tell it very well.  I told it brilliantly.  I had a captive audience.

Then, I came to the punch line...which ended with the word "f**k".

My mother, who'd had a few too many drinks in her, started laughing hysterically.

Unfortunately, everybody else at the table sat in a stunned silence.  If my mother hadn't been laughing, you could have heard a pin drop.

You see, in 1954, a thirteen-year-old boy did not say "f**k"...particularly in front of adults.

The first one to speak was my father.  Pointing at me, he started shouting at my mother, "You're the one who encourages him!  This is all your doing!"

Within two minutes, all of our very embarrassed guests had excused themselves and left our house.

I don't recall if I was sent to my room or not, but I know I never told another joke at Thanksgiving dinner.

DR DRUXY - that story reminds me of the only funny moment in a Sally Field movie called - I think - PUNCHLINE.

I've been reading about JMK's neighbor.  Good grief, the police initially thought it was natural causes so they didn't call the homicide detectives until after the autopsy showed it was homocide. Great, an aggressive defense attorney is killed and the police immediately mess up the crime scene by not doing anything to preserve it.

Thanksgiving morning greetings!  Our turkey went in the oven precisely at the stroke of 9 and now we're watching the Broadway performances on NBC.  Bye Bye Birdie:P

TOD: My most memorable Thanksgiving was last year at my sister's. We sat around watching tv and ate chicken thighs cooked on the Showtime Rotisserie Grill wondering if this would be her last Thanksgiving.

Good morning, all! I have a quiet day planned until around 3 pm when I have to begin my treck to midtown for dinner at the home of DR FJL and the multi-talented Skip Kennon. I have been looking forward to this all month.

Yesterday I lost a job, and I doubt I will get another from this producer again. I don't know, in analyzing things today, if I misinterpreted the job or if I was so put out by it's being a put-down-whatever-you-re-doing-and-fix-this-job-now that required more time than I was given that I simply did what I wanted to to get it off my desk, but I blew it. I spent a complete day writing a good chart that will never be heard and for which I will never be paid. The only good thing about it was I'll never have to hear this producer nickel-and-dime-ing-me ever again. On the plus side, yesterday I learned that FINIAN'S RAINBOW will be recorded in ten days and I think I haven't made myself unemployable yet.

So, this morning, I will finish the Moross job I couldn't finish two days ago and jump in the Loesser edits to finish up THE MOST HAPPY FELLA, Life goes on.

Good morning!

It was very foggy out this morning, the foggiest since I started back to walking near the end of September. The thermometer said 39, but it didn't feel that cold.

I have many warm memories of Thanksgiving. Mostly involving from "orphans"...those friends and pals away from home or without relatives...coming to the Pogue House to feast.  Other times of the Pogues being the orphans and going to other friends' houses.  One of my favourite Thanksgiving was when in college and we at a rehearsal for a play on Thanksgiving Day, so a bunch of the actors chipped in and bought a "stud turkey" and fixins and had a great Thanksgiving meal in my tiny cramped apartment.

My turkey went into the oven at 9:30, and I cannot wait to eat some of it. I haven't had turkey since last Easter, and I am more than ready to partake of a GIANT feast.

My boss wrote me last nght that he'd throw a drumstick at me if I picked up a DVD to review today. Since I took yesterday off, I can't justify another day off, but since the movie I'll be reviewing is A CHRISTMAS TALE (this time on Blu-ray), it won't really be like work since the review of the film won't change much (if at all), and I'll only update the video and audio sections to reflect different encodes and to note in the features section the resolution of the bonus features.

Then, I won't post it until tomorrow. That should keep the drumstick away from my head.

Having my traditional lazy Thankgiving Day morning watching the rather generic and commercial Macys Parade.

DR Ginny, I think you were being overly kind about BYE, BYE BIRDIE.

TOD:

I've had lovely family Thanksgivings when my parents and aunt and uncle were alive, and I had wonderful celebrations with my (then) partner Steven. I can't say that any particular one stood out for me. I do remember in celebrations with my family when the meal revolved around what football was on television, I got lots of wonderful reading done during those days since I wasn't interested in the least in the games.

And I spent an hour this morning going through all of the sale ads for tomorrow in the newspapers. I didn't see anything to convince me to head out on Black Friday to shop (though I will be going to the grocery store as usual on Friday).

Now I'm going to head to Amazon to see if they're going to price match any of the sale prices for some of the Blu-rays that were on special in today's paper.
