So, I was just watching "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" and the last guest was Tony Bennett, so I started my DVR a-recordin'.  He sang "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."  Anyway, the picture that they showed coming out of commercial showing that you're watching "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" is this (I took a picture of the TV with my camera):

I thought that it looked familiar.  Then I remembered...it's the cover of Closer Than Ever!  It's just different music. ;)

Someone on "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" must be a fan of Maltby & Shire...or musicals...or Brent Barrett, the World's Sexiest Man Alive (WSMA in Internet lingo)!

DR George - I am amazed that:

1]  Your picture of your television came out so clearly, and
[2] That you so quickly identified the source!

Congratulations!        :D

TOD:

Funny you should ask, bk!   I'm making a huge batch of this for the choir party on Sunday evening after our Lessons & Carols service:

The Silver Palate's Chicken Marbella - a wonderful go-to party dish.  Except that I'm using boneless, skinless chicken breasts and reducing the cooking time accordingly.

One of the finest dishes ever to come out of the Silver Palate Cookbook, this chicken marbella is first marinated in oil, vinegar, capers, olives, prunes, and herbs, then baked with added brown sugar and white wine. While prunes and capers might seem like an odd combination, when cooked together with chicken they create a delectable sweet and sour, savory flavor. The original recipe calls for the chicken pieces to be marinated all night. We found that marinating for 5 hours worked fine.

Chicken Marbella Recipe

Ingredients
2 chickens, 2 1/2 lbs each, quartered, bone-in, skin-on
1/2 head of garlic, peeled and finely puréed
2 Tbsp dried oregano
Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup pitted prunes
1/4 cup pitted Spanish green olives
1/4 cup capers with a bit of juice
3 bay leaves
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white wine
2 Tbsp fresh Italian parsley or cilantro, finely chopped

Method

1 In a large bowl combine garlic, oregano, salt and pepper to taste, vinegar, olive oil, prunes, olives, capers with caper juice, and bay leaves. Add the chicken pieces and coat completely with the marinade. Cover and let marinate, refrigerated, several hours or overnight.

2 Preheat oven to 350°F.

3 Arrange chicken in a single layer in one or two large, shallow baking pans and spoon marinade over it evenly. Sprinkle chicken pieces with brown sugar and pour white wine around them.

4 Bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour, basting frequently with the pan juices. Chicken is done when thigh pieces, pricked with a fork at their thickest point, yield clear yellow juice (not pink).

5 With a slotted spoon, transfer chicken, prunes, olives, and capers to a serving platter. Add some of the pan juices and sprinkle generously with parsley or cilantro. Serve remaining juice in a gravy boat.

Serves 5.

Saturday morning greetings!  Our household is up early for today's graduation festivities at the University of Cincinnati.  DS Rob is receiving a BA in philosophy and Faith Prince is receiving an honorary doctorate and delivering the commencement address.

Film at 11.

Good morning, all! I have a trip to the NYPL planned around noon as well as a few neighborhood excursions. My major goal this morning is to work on the last act of THE MOST HAPPY FELLA, which I want to turn in early next week. Tonight, I am seeing Mr Kevin Spirtas' play.

I need some coffee.

Whew!  It's 9:15 AM.  I have done email, walked the dog, done a bank errand, and been to the diner for a breakfast of whole wheat pancakes and crispy bacon.

And now I'm back home and getting ready to do a boatload of grocery shopping.

At least you have a car in which to put your boatload of groceries. We, on the other hand, have to use a Granny Cart and push our purchases along the street to taunts and whistles from rude members of New York Society  ;)

I'm eating my oatmeal with dried fruit. Later I will shave and shower and then head over to our holiday part at 3pm. It's a cold day but getting warmer as it progresses. They say it will be 38 at the high.

Good morning!

It was cold this morning (not as cold as yesterday), but I bundled up a bit and took my walk. I didn't get nearly as cold as I thought I would, and it was a very refreshing walk. However, rain is moving in later today and will continue throughout tomorrow, so I may have to do treadmill tomorrow, not a happy thought.

I am delighted to be done with Mel Brooks and free to watch whatever I want today. The Blu-ray(s) I end up watching may depend on what comes in the mail today, but I think I may finally get to WATCHMEN today. I know it's very long, so that may comprise my entire evening slate of viewing. But the contents of today's mail will seal the deal about what I inevitably wne up viewing.

I do know I will watch UGLY BETTY while I eat lunch today, and I'll likely get to THE OFFICE today, too.

I can also continue with my Photoshop project which got postponed when THE MEL BROOKS COLLECTION arrived a week earlier than I thought it would.

I don't have any chicken recipes to share, but I did want to mention that my mother made the best fried chicken ever on the face of this planet. She never shared the recipe with me, so that knowledge of what she did to make it so special went with her to the grave. But I'll never forget how much we looked forward to fried chicken night at home.

The only special dish I do with poultry is barbecued cornish hens. When I have people over for dinner, this is what I almost always cook.

Things seem very quiet on the internet this morning. I'm heading down now to watch a PERRY MASON episode before I start thinking about what's for lunch.
