TOD:

How about some of the fantastic stunts performed by Yakima Canutt  (e.g. STAGECOACH).

They were the real thing.

And the word of the day is: LARGESS!

I find it most unseemly to be discussing the size of anyone's ess.

His siblings Tacoma and Puyallup Canutt were also excellent.

(A little Washingtonian humor, you may thank me later).

I just wanted to mention that the reprint of Meredith Willson's BUT HE DOESN'T KNOW THE TERRITORY is on sale in Amazon's Gold Box today for less than $10. It's a first hand account of the road to bringing the musical to Broadway.

Can you Canutt?

Kublai Khan but Immanuel Kant.

(With apologies to Ogden Nash).

Yes indeed. He's certainly one of the greats.

The chariot race in BEN-HUR is certainly also worth mentioning.

I will now hop off-line so I can get cleaned up for lunch out today with best friend John. Before he gets here I should have some time to continue working on the Photoshop project. I didn't get a chance to touch it all weekend.

What is it that Charlton Heston said?

Paraphrasing: "Yakima said that all I had to worry about was staying in the chariot.  He would guarantee that I would win the race."

I can't believe that the Los Angeles Film Critics voted THE HURT LOCKER as Best Picture of 2009.

It was okay, but "Best Picture"!?!

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I wonder if The New York Times and/or Ben Brantley will correct a somewhat - well, to me at least - error in his review of A Little Night Music?

My father would have turned 88 today; I've been thinking about him quite a lot in the past several days.

DR DAW - thank you for this.  Listening to the broadcast is one of our favorite holiday traditions.  This year, DH Richard will be presiding over his own Lessons & Carols service on Christmas Eve.

Well, I just re-checked the New York Times website, and still no correction... ;)

Actually, it really is sort of an interesting error/oversight/mistake:

"The show is punctuated by the choral commentary of four lieder singers, who are always asking, “Remember, darling?”"

There are five Liebeslieders, not four.

Actually it looks like it's Chloe Sevigny who did the "stunt," if I'm understanding the reference.
