THERE ARE DAYS AND THERE ARE DAYS

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - this, apparently, isn't the day or the DAY.

TOD

We've attended no theatre this year.

I just put on the Brain CD and have fond memories.

der Brucer

The closest I got to theatre was watching the film of Doubt - sure wish I could have seen this with Cherry Jones.

LATIMES

Quote

Director James Cameron's 3-D film about an earthling whose avatar travels to a distant moon restores a sense of wonder to the moviegoing experience that has been missing for too long.

By Kenneth Turan FILM CRITIC

Think of "Avatar" as "The Jazz Singer" of 3-D filmmaking. Think of it as the most expensive and accomplished Saturday matinee movie ever made. Think of it as the ultimate James Cameron production.

Whatever way you choose to look at it, "Avatar's" shock and awe demand to be seen. You've never experienced anything like it, and neither has anyone else.
...

That’s a lot of hype to measure up to.

der Brucer

I hope DR MattH has some arcane grammar rule that makes that sentence acceptable.

Good morning, all! Today I have the McGlinnventory, followed by the NYPL. I'd like to learn more about Otto Langey, Victor Herbert's chief musical assistant from 1893-1910, and he is a shadowy figure I'm not learning much about. For the publisher Boosey & Hawkes he wrote a set of method books for every instrument under the sun, and I figure at some point someone must have written somethng about him in a newspaper or an edition of the Grove Encyclopedia. So, back to the NYPL.

That will be followed by a stop to the pharmacy to drop off the new prescriptions from yesterday and pick up some meds. I think tonight I need to begin wrapping gifts if I want to get things to Ohio into the 2nd day Fed Ex by Monday morning.

Bent
Even with the additions to the script that I am sure were NOT granted permission by Martin Sherman. I thought that they were wrong and would have complained to the author if I knew how to contact him.

I've burned 40 CDs so that's one more gift of the list! I need packing envelopes. I see a trip to Staples in my immediate future. Maybe I'll order them and have them delivered?

I just discovered a Walgreen's in New Jersey that's willing to give me an H1N1 vaccine shot.  So I guess I'm getting ready to take a drive over the George Washington bridge.

Good Morning.

It's another chilly December day in New York though the sun is out and it's quite pretty.

We will be going to Macy's in a while. Anthony is still abed while I've been up since 5:30.

Anthony just woke up!

He will have breakfast and I will shower and shave and then it's his turn.

TOD:

With our move and settling into life in Austin, there has not been a lot of time for theatre this year.  In fact, we've only seen three shows...all musicals:

WICKED (National Company)
THE PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE  (at the ZACH)
THE EVIL DEAD  (Local small theater production)

We enjoyed all three.

Since I got laid off in March there hasn't been a lot of theatergoing this year in San Antonio, an hour south of Druxy. But I was given a ticket recently for the tour of "Lion King," a show I would never have seen otherwise. I loved Garth Fagan's movement throughout. Even if the show was meant for kids, there were plenty of visual images and movement to keep my mind stimulated throughout.
The rest of my theater experiences have been limited to cast albums. Favorite release of the year that I have received was the full-length "Allegro."

Thursday morning greetings!  Just stopping by quickly before I have to leave for a meeting and some shopping.  It's another clear, sunny, cold day here in SW Ohio.

TOD - the shows that come to mind quickly are Finain's Rainbow in NYC, Jersey Boys in Chicago, and White Christmas in Cincinnati.  Those stand out because, in addition to wonderful productions, we were in great company for all 3 - Hainies/Kimlets for FR, my DN Laura for JB, and my Mom and our DS Rob (and sister-in-law Kathy - a suprise!) for WC.

Good morning!

Colder this morning than the last few mornings, and it doesn't look like it's going to get out of the 40s today, but it's bright and sunny regardless of the air temperature. A very pretty December day.

I've only seen a few theatrical shows this year.

I saw the national tour of LEGALLY BLONDE which was silly and fun but hardly outstanding.

Best friend John was in a local production of THE FULL MONTY that had some very good people and some very poor people making for a mediocre experience.

Local productions of THE WOMAN IN BLACK and THE PRODUCERS were so-so at best.

But I didn't really see anything this year that I thought was truly outstanding.

I am sorry to say that except for Putnam County Playhouse, I had no theatre going experiences this year.  I shall enjoy hearing others choices.

I haven't heard the UPS man this morning, so I'm assuming it's yet another day off. From the Warner Archive, I have I LOVE MELVIN set to play. Either ON WITH THE SHOW or THE HOLLYWOOD REVUE OF 1929 will likely follow.

I'd like to get A CHRISTMAS STORY on Blu-ray watched, maybe this evening.

TV Tidbits:

CBS has an all-new slate of shows tonight (including a new MENTALIST, yay!)

NBC has a SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE clip show for two hours.

ABC, FOX, and the CW are in rerun mode tonight.

I think I will skip AVATAR, but I hope those who think they will enjoy it - enjoy it.
