When I came home about 4:30 there were 2 deer in my yard.  they have been eating me out of bird food with great regularity so I finally gave in tonight and bought a deer feed block.  It's more than just salt.  I hate to feed them since I"m in town, but they come to my yard whether there is food or not, so I may as well give them food

I thought it would be a nice idea to hang one of those suet packs outside my kitchen window...

After the second sparrow crashed into the window, I took the pack and hung it from a tree.

The crashing sparrows were okay.  I looked out the window and did not see them on the ground.

Or that the parents didn't notice something OFF when the kids came back from getting their "treat"?  If the kids were screaming when he did the videos why would it have stopped when they were returned to their parents?

Apparently parents did notice but were either reluctant to go to the police and/or the police still had insufficient evidence for the arrest - the police clearly had multiple reports over the year of suspicion.

After the McMartin case (remember that) officials are cautious about prosecution based soley on toddler's oral evidence. The tipping point in this case seems to be a child who exhibited physical signs of abuse at the hospital.

der Brucer

I wish that I could say this is an isolated case, but it happens far more than most people would ever imagine.  Not only doctors, but teachers, babysitters, ministers, counselers, and very often, parents.

since he doesn't have a shovel he will have to wait for the snow to melt before driving again.

I think he should go out tomorrow and get a shovel. That snow is not gonna melt.

for now he can't get anywhere to get a shovel, even the trains are closed.  at least they have power and plenty of food.  they sounded very happy to be snowed in.

Then I watched THE HANGOVER on Blu-ray. Nutty, farcical, completely enjoyable film. Bradley Cooper is to die for, Ed Helms is a riot, Justin Bartha (from the NATIONAL TREASURE movies) is precious but not in nearly enough of the fillm.

THE HANGOVER is one of those comedies which I thought I would hate, but ending up really liking it.  I mean REALLY liking it.  It's a great little comedy.

that is what i keep hearing.  i hope we agree once it finally arrives from netflix.

this is craig's car AFTER the snowplow cleared the parking lot at their apartment building.  he said his car isn't as bad as others.

since he doesn't have a shovel he will have to wait for the snow to melt before driving again.

I spent the entire morning shoveling my sidewalks and digging out my car.  There was so much snow piled on top of my Camry that it looked like a hatchback.

Sunday afternoon greetings!  We are back from a long day in Lima.  Fr. Richard's lay reader was kept away by the snow (he comes from up north), the recorded music didn't work (probably due to a power failure sometime during the week and requiring Richard to lead the acapella singing), there was a vestry meeting after the service, and Richard made his monthly visit to our centenarian.

Is that anything like a gladiator?

glad they were ok.  we have a problem with birds hitting our window.  the sound is horrible & it is worst when the don't survive.

This ATC post seemed to scream out for a parody, whether it turns out to be true or not.

Author of Wicked claims economic downturn has hurt him fiscally
Posted by:   EricL212 01:54 pm EST 12/19/09
Gregory Maguire claims to have been hurt by the economic downturn, hard to imagine that could be true with 7 world wide productions of Wicked running to sold out houses.

So:

("Crying Poverty" - to the tune of "Defying Gravity")

Something has changed my spending
My income’s not the same
I must take lower paychecks
And the downturn is to blame
I don’t have much in savings
My pockets aren’t deep
I must adjust my cravings
Life does not come cheap

And that is why
I’m crying poverty
No it’s no lie
I’m crying poverty
My income is way down!

I'm through my credit limits
My banker tells me so
Don’t even ask for change
I’ll simply have to tell you no!
The money used to come in
But now the cash cow’s lost
And now it’s time for slummin’
I must buy at cost!

Why won’t you buy
My crying poverty
My home’s a sty
I am crying poverty
My income is way down:

Unlimited
My credit was unlimited
My spending used to be so very very free

Everywhere we gandered
Gold had been my standard
Now with this economy

Oh screw that, I
Am crying poverty
It’s true that I
Am crying poverty
The poorest guy in town!

And nobody will give me cash
They even repossess my trash
So chatters please don’t put me down!

Had a wonderful visit with my darling daughter and her friend Skye.  We ate at Hugo's which, at two-thirty, was a bloody zoo and remained so until four when we left.  We had a terrible waiter - took him twenty minutes to mosey over to our table and only after I threw a little fit to a passing waiter who refused to look in my direction - oh, he looked once I sternly raised my voice.  He got our waiter, who then apologized, saying it was his fault - like, who else's fault would it have been.  Then he was perhaps the worst waiter I've ever had - inattentive, couldn't even get a refill on my Diet Coke.

Seems strange that there won't be anything on TV tonight for me to watch. DEXTER has concluded its season, and BROTHERS & SISTERS is on its seasonal hiatus.

On the other hand, ABC has been repeating CASTLE episodes on Saturday nights, and since I have the show on SeasonPlay, last night's show was recorded, and will likely be watched either while I eat lunch or at some point today.

How about reading a book? :-)

How about it?

Scary shots: a couple of stills of Wayne Newton in Vegas which are part of the photographic evidence of their wild night shown at the end of the movie. Forget about any movie monsters. What Wayne Newton has done to himself to stay "young" is the most frightening argument against plastic surgery possible.

Have you seen what used to be Melanie Griffith?

Yep, and it's just as horrendous. And so foolish. We might not know their chronological ages, but we know how long they've been around. It's silly for them to think we have collective amnesia.

I began my evening after those usual Sunday chores watching RIO RITA. Once again, the movie looks better (sharper) than the homemade DVD-R that I had burned for myself, so it got pitched. All the signs of its age (circa 1929) show, but it was still most enjoyable.

Then I watched two more SUPERNATURAL episodes in the fourth season Blu-ray set. Once gave us the backstory on the human that Castiel is inhabiting. A terrific acting showcase for Misha Collins which he brings off splendidly.

The second episode sets up the season finale with Sam being locked up to detox from his demon blood addiction.

Then I watched that TCM documentary on EPICS. Put together by bk favorite Laurent Bouzereau, the mishmash back-and-forth of references to the epic films of the 50s and 60s was a trifle irritating. I find the subject fascinating, but it's very superficially addressed (maybe three or four minutes about the scores for the epics, for example. They could have done the entire HOUR on just the scores alone) and haphazardly arranged.

So, wonderful topic, a few decent bits of insight amid much already known information (the tired, recycled stories about GONE WITH THE WIND), but with no real depth. I found it pretty unsatisfying.
