Quote from: FJL
This ATC post seemed to scream out for a parody, whether it turns out to be true or not.

Author of Wicked claims economic downturn has hurt him fiscally
Posted by:   EricL212 01:54 pm EST 12/19/09
Gregory Maguire claims to have been hurt by the economic downturn, hard to imagine that could be true with 7 world wide productions of Wicked running to sold out houses.

So:

("Crying Poverty" - to the tune of "Defying Gravity")

Something has changed my spending
My income’s not the same
I must take lower paychecks
And the downturn is to blame
I don’t have much in savings
My pockets aren’t deep
I must adjust my cravings
Life does not come cheap

And that is why
I’m crying poverty
No it’s no lie
I’m crying poverty
My income is way down!

I'm through my credit limits
My banker tells me so
Don’t even ask for change
I’ll simply have to tell you no!
The money used to come in
But now the cash cow’s lost
And now it’s time for slummin’
I must buy at cost!

Why won’t you buy
My crying poverty
My home’s a sty
I am crying poverty
My income is way down:

Unlimited
My credit was unlimited
My spending used to be so very very free

Everywhere we gandered
Gold had been my standard
Now with this economy

Oh screw that, I
Am crying poverty
It’s true that I
Am crying poverty
The poorest guy in town!

And nobody will give me cash
They even repossess my trash
So chatters please don’t put me down!

Ah - ah - a- a

DR Vixmom - You're Christmas tree must be quite beautiful.  I bet Vixdad got a few extra homemade cookies for all his hard work.

Oy! My afternoon has been tied up with a draft of a report on the past six months to the Institute. I think it's pretty good now. DR Matt H, here's a photo for you:

Isn't that a great shot of the two of them - soap opera's premiere gay couple.

LATIMES

(Home Theatre of MattH)

Quote
Theater chain puts a luxe twist on dinner and a movie

As they relaxed in the dimly lighted lounge, awaiting the sold-out screening of "Invictus," Stephen Galloway and his wife, Tina, were perusing the menu between sips of champagne. A waiter had just brought a chilled $49 bottle of Schramsberg sparkling wine and was ready for their order.

Tina was contemplating the $14 plate of fried calamari with ginger and lemon, while Stephen had a hankering for the $19 New York strip steak sandwich.

The Galloways are hardly high rollers -- he's a property manager and she's a social worker. Still, the Pasadena couple were more than willing to fork over $29 each for a movie ticket, on top of the bill for champagne and finger food.

Through a $200-million joint venture with Norman Lear's Act III Communications and other partners, Village Roadshow plans to open as many as 30 luxury theaters nationwide over the next five years. Future locations include Austin, Texas, and Scottsdale, Ariz.,
...

Neat - Scottsdale for Kerry and Laura, Austin for Druxy.

der Brucer

Note to Laura - please take a picture of your $29 ticket stub

Yeah, but do they charge more for aisle seats?

SOUTH PACIFIC is indeed truly lovely in Blu Ray - and I am glad I spent the $20.

I felt the same way. I still don't like the color filters much at all, but for the first time ever, the texture of the colored filters in high definition was such that I wasn't totally put off by them.

Fave Susan Blackwell, of [title of show] fame, has been granted a regular "video" blog on Broadway.com!!!!!!

This is great news.  She is funny lady.  I love her long time.

Thanks for sharing this news, DR DAW.   I hadn't heard about this before.

I finished all of the bonus features on (500) DAYS OF SUMMER. The two stars and the director put together two really fun little items: a music video in pantomime of a bank robbery, and the two actors playing Sid and Nancy acting a scene from their (500) DAYS film. Both very funny. And the Sid and Nancy parody was done in 1080p. BTW, the two stars switched genders to play Sid and Nancy.

I skimmed through today's soap operas. There was nothing of interest on ATWT.

OLTL, of course, had our gay love triangle operating at full force with some nice kissing scenes between Oliver and Kyle.

Then I watched another episode of THE MENTALIST. This was the one where the head of a women's urban league was murdered while a group of her friends on her charity committee gossiped and clucked behind her back. Of course, secrets come out about the murdered woman that lead to more murders, and it's just very entertaining.

Next I didn't feel like watching a movie, so I put in BROADWAY: THE AMERICAN MUSICAL and watched the segment on 1930-42. I was hoping LADY IN THE DARK was mentioned (I couldn't remember if it was or not) but it wasn't.

Here's a photo of last night's performance of the "Appalachian Carols" at Town Hall. The "Love Lives On" quilt in the back is the Chorus' AIDS quilt with 148 stars on it representing deceased chorus members.

Wonderful photo, DR elmore!!  It must have been a terrific concert.

148 stars.  How sad.

I completely echo DR MATTH's opinion of the EPICS "special" on TCM last night.  Although it is to be expected, since the one on "Thrillers" was pretty lame as well.

I think I will skip future Original Programming of this nature.  Not well done at all, it was interesting to see and hear Fraser Heston and the son of Samuel Bronston - but mostly it was a blah!

DITTO!  What a horrid experience!

Then I started looking at the lengthy series of interviews cut from the final broadcast edition, and those are really fascinating little tidbits of personal stories with Mary Rodgers and Cy Feurer and Jo Loesser and Jerry Herman and Kitty Carlisle et al talking about the shows and personalities of that era. There are almost two hours of these unused interviews on this disc alone.

I concluded my viewing with tonight's episode of THE CLOSER. I was pretty much "in on the twist" pretty early, but it was still very entertaining. Kyra and Mary make GREAT adversaries. There was an AWFUL lot of hollering in this episode.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm......I got the SOUTH PACIFIC Blu Ray today -  I may watch it this evening.

I like SOUTH PACIFIC now that there's a blu-ray than I ever did before.  Still, I don't like the opening structure one single bit. . .I still think it works better if you meet Nellie and Emile right off the bat. . .

Julie - And the munchkins can gather round at the end pointing at gregory Maguire and saying "lookit, he wrote Wicked" before the Ah-ah-ah

i actually may change the next to last line to "I even must sweep up the trash"  so that he can have a broom in his hand like Elphaba does.

I am home. The party was great fun. I'm watching the weather and it sounds like tomorrow afternoon will be the perfect window between the freezing drizzzle and the heavy snow, so I should be able to get there without any problem

How did Ken Clark look in high definition?
