...We stay as far away from Times Square as possible (it may be fun for the first time but it's a MADHOUSE and once is enough).
I feel the same way about making snow angels. It's fun the first time, but too cold and wet to make it a habit.
Thank you to DR Cillaliz for the beautiful snow angel she shared with us this morning. I hope there was a big cup of hot chocolate waiting for you inside!
Lots of things are fun the first time. I hope Times Square will be one of them!
I've always thought it would be fun to be there once. Have a great time Edi!
DR edisaurus - Just remember, people start gathering in Times Square in the morning - as soon as the police finish setting up the blockades. -And once you're "in", you are in. They do set up porta-potties, but there's also that system where people form a circle around someone while they do their business on top of a subway grate. Otherwise...
Also remember, that around 12:30am (on January 1, 2010), the NYPD will only let people who can show proof that they either live in Times Square or are staying in a Times Square hotel through Times Square. Otherwise, 8th and 6th Avenues will be your friend. They close it off so that the sanitation department can do their magic(!), and have everything cleaned up by 7:00am. -That ALWAYS amazes me.
Otherwise, wear comfortable shoes and some good layers of clothing. It really is quite the experience. I
almost did it again last year - I braved the crowds back in 1991 - but opted to attend a party at a friend's apartment over on 10th Ave. with a great view of the revelers.
