Today is also my Mother's 78th birthday.

TOD:

DVD - Teacher's Pet with Doris Day & Clark Gable & Gig Young

CD: A present from DR ELMORE White Horse Inn featuring Kitty Carlisle, William Gaxton, Alfred Drake among others.

Earlier this year DR ELMORE mentioned IM WEISSEN ROSSL an operetta from the Austrian theatre the Morbisch.  I bought it and loved it....this is an English recording of the show!

I am only sorry that Ms Carlisle does not do the yodel specialty that was the hit of the evening on the DVD!

Im Weissen Rossl gets the German variety show treatment in the 1970's.....scary.

DR cillaliz, I agree that the photos are stunning in their beauty!
We're having a drab, rainy Christmas morning.
Our Christmas dinner with family is planned for tomorrow.
Mum and I will be having leftover - not that there's anything wrong with that - mac & cheese and roasted eye of round.
Miss Dixie Bell will just be enjoying our company.

DR JRand59, birthday salutations to your Mother!

I was recently given a copy of the libretto to the Carlisle-Gaxton version of IM WEISSEN ROSSL; some of the lyrics are really good!

Good morning to all and to all a good day!!

It was a lovely evening at BK's last night, great food, scrumptious desserts, lively conversation. BK was his usual, radiant self - after all his whining, I mean MUSING, of course, about probably nobody coming I was astonished by the crowd... and yes, with all the space in that huge house, we ALL always wind up sitting in the sitting room, so it always seems like many more folks than the couple dozen.

I'm dawg-sitting for my nephew - when I got back the pups were ecstatic at having company of their very own. And, of course, they slept on my bed with me - two 90-pound dreamers, rolling around all night... who wanted to rise and greet the day at 6:30... Still, dog-generated insomnia is better than no dogs! So, maybe I'll have a nap this afternoon...

Merry Christmas to one and all of our DRs, and to bk who brings us together!

Just cooked brunch and ready to transport it off to my mom's! Hope my brother can make it out of the 2 feet of snow in the western Carolina mountains.

Have a great day, everyone!

Hiya, Arnold... as far as I could tell, people at the BK Do were too engrossed in conversation and food to be taking pix... maybe I just didn't catch them at it - but i don't think there were pictures.

Gosh, it's a lovely, resort-ish day here by the beach in sunny southern California... More traditionally weathered hainsies, if you do go out in all that lovely white snow, do be safe.

I'm guessing JRand and Cillaliz and Dakota Celt are having a VERY white Christmas.

Ginny, too?

And our NYC (and environs) crew?

Wear layers.  Ladies, get those Cuddle Duds out.  Gents, bring out the galoshes.

Meantime, does anyone know where I might find some gopherwood on Christmas Day?

A gopher tree?

Yes, it's a sort-of-white Christmas in Manhattan!

From wikipedia:

"Gopher wood or gopherwood is a term used once in the Bible, for the substance from which Noah's ark was built. Gen 6:14 states that Noah was to build the Ark of גפר, gofer, more commonly gopher wood, a word not otherwise known in the Bible or in Hebrew."
