Well, you've read the notes, the notes were merry and Christmas-like, and now it is time for you to post until the Christmas cows come home.

Well, I ate more spaghetti and tuna pasta salad and now feel completely gross - but that's my deal on Christmas Eve - a tradition if you will, so I'll just have to jog extra far tomorrow - that is if I can fit in my jogging shorts!

Well, I say Merry Christmas too!

It's too cold and too early, but I'm heading out to distribute things to the homeless.  Sugar wishes we were back in our warm bed.,

A nap is in order today!

I was part of a Candlelight Service at church last night.  Not as joyous or as inspring as the ones MusicGuy used to produce at his church years ago..  But it was nice to see DRLaura.

Better words after my nap this afternoon.  Happy morning!

IT'S CHRISTMAS AND WE'RE JEWISH

IT'S CHRISTMAS AND WE'RE JEWISH
AND WE'VE GOT A TREE AND LIGHTS
OUR PARENTS ARE EMBARASSED
AND IT CAUSES LOTS OF FIGHTS

THEY TALK ABOUT TRADITION
TILL OUR HEADS BEGIN TO ACHE
BUT THIS IS THE POSITION
THAT WE PASSIONATELY TAKE

CHRISTMAS MEANS PEACE
CHRISTMAS MEANS LOVE
THOSE ARE THINGS THAT EVERYONE
DESERVES A LITTLE OF

SO CHRISTMAS ISN'T JUST FOR CHRISTIANS
ANYMORE THAN MATZO BALLS AND BLITZES
ARE JUST FOR JEWS

CHRISTIANS CAN BE JEWISH
AND OUR HOUSE IS LIVING PROOF
MENORAH IN THE LIVING ROOM
AND REINDEER ON THE ROOF

STOCKINGS HANGING BY THE CHIMNEY
RIGHT WHERE THEY BELONG
AND WE STUFF THEM ALL WITH DREIDELS
WHILE WE SING A CHRISTMAS SONG
DECK THE HALLS WITH LOAVES OF CHALLAH
FA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA

THINK BACK TWO THOUSAND YEARS
AND YOU'LL ADMIT IT'S TRUE
THE MOM AND DAD WERE JEWISH
AND THE KID WAS JEWISH TOO
WISE MEN CAME TO BETHLEHEM
EACH CARRING A BOX THEY WISHED INSTEAD OF FRANKINCENSE
HE'D BROUGHT A LITTLE LOX

SANTA FILLS HIS BAG WITH TOYS
AND LOADS IT ON HIS SLEIGH
THERE ARE SO MANY GIRLS AND BOYS
YOU HEAR HIM SAY "OY VAY"

RUDOLPH IS ADOPTED
BUT HE TREATS HIM LIKE A SON
AND HE'S GETTING HIM A NOSE JOB
[spoken as Rudolph – “She thinks I’m cute!”)
WHEN THE HOLIDAYS ARE DONE

CHRISTMAS MEANS PEACE
CHRISTMAS MEANS LOVE
THOSE ARE THINGS THAT EVERYONE
DESERVES A LITTLE OF

SO CHRISTMAS ISN'T JUST FOR CHRISTIANS
ANYMORE THAN MATZO BALLS AND BLITZES,KNISHES (BLESS YOU) GEFILTE FISHES
AND WISHES FOR PEASE AND LOVE

In the vein of Michael S's post:

CHRISTMAS FANS

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN TAKES ON A GLOW
HAPPY NEW YORKERS RACE TO AND FRO
BET YOUR LAST DIME
IT’S GOT TO BE THAT TIME OF YEAR

YOU CAN FEEL IT EACH TIME DECEMBER STARTS
LIKE A PRESENT FROM UP ABOVE
IT’S THE SPIRIT THAT FILLS THE HARDEST HEARTS
IN THE MONTH I CALL LOVE

SEE THE SMILES ON THE PEOPLE PASSING BY
CAN’T YOU TELL WHAT THEY’RE THINKING OF
ASK THEM WHY THEY’RE SO HAPPY, THEY’LL REPLY
IT’S THE MONTH I CALL LOVE

TRUE THERE IS REASON FOR SOME DESPAIR
REASONS TO WORRY OR SHED A TEAR
BUT WHEN THAT HOLIDAY SPIRIT FILLS THE AIR
YOU’LL BE SO HAPPY YOU’RE HERE

SO WHATEVER YOUR CHOICE OF WISH MAY BE
MERRY CHRISTMAS OR MAZELTOV
ALL NEW YORK IS ONE HAPPY FAMILY
IN THE MONTH I CALL LOVE
IN THE MONTH I CALL LOVE

THEIR CYNICAL FRIENDS

SEE THE MOBS RUNNING DOWN FIFTH AVENUE
FEEL THE STRAIN AS THEY PUSH AND SHOVE
KEEP ON SMILING ‘CAUSE THAT’S THE THING TO DO
IN THE MONTH YOU CALL LOVE

SEE THE THINGS THAT YOU KNOW YOU CAN’T AFFORD
WON’T THAT DRESS FIT MOM LIKE A GLOVE?
THANKS TO VISA WE STILL CAN THANK THE LORD
FOR THE MONTH YOU CALL LOVE

CHRISTMAS FANS

HONEY, THE PROBLEMS ARE PLAIN TO SEE
STILL IT’S NO TIME TO BE FEELING DOWN
‘CAUSE WHEN THE LIGHTS BRIGHTEN THAT GREAT CHRISTMAS TREE
YOU FEEL ‘EM LIGHT UP THE TOWN

ALL

SO GRAB YOUR BAGS, KEEP YOUR WALLETS WELL IN SIGHT
GRAB A PARTRIDGE AND TURTLE DOVE
WE ALL SWEAR THAT NEW YORK IS WORTH THE FIGHT
IN THE MONTH WE CALL LOVE
IN THE MONTH WE CALL
IN THE MONTH THAT’S ALL
IN THE MONTH WE CALL LOVE!

Last night, I wrote:

I finished my evening watching STAR! Since I've had Gertrude Lawrence and LADY IN THE DARK on my mind a lot while reading that book over the course of the last week, I wanted to watch this again. Didn't quite have enough time to see the whole thing, but I got Gertie married to Richard Aldrich before I had to close up shop.

To which DR Michael Shayne replied:

Sounds like you saw the whole film.

They get married right before the end credits. The rice is thrown they get in the car. They talk, credits appear, the end

To which I respond:

Not quite right, Michael. You've forgotten that we also cut back to Gertie in Jerry Paul's screening room commenting on the film for the final time. I didn't get to that either.

That's why I said I didn't see "quite the whole thing." I got to about five minutes before the end.

Merry Christmas morning!  We have a very low key day in store - my Mom will join us this afternoon to wait for the arrival of Rob and Mary Linda from Michigan.  We'll wait until they get here to open presents and have a nice steak dinner.

Good morning, all! And my Wish to all the DRs for a wonderful day today and a fantastic 2010.

Last night i watched the 1977(?) BBC production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL with Michael Hordern as Scrooge. It had some great moments, and a good cast, but it was too short, only 58 minutes long. Tonight I will watch one of the other dramatizations, perhaps George C. Scott's, woch I haven't seen in years. I also want to see the ballet version again because I like Carl Davis' score very much and it has some very imaginative and beautiful moments.

Today,  have a brunch at the Raines home at noon followed by dinner at the salon of DR FJL and the mighty Skip Kennon. I am looking forward to both events with much pleasure. I know that an old friend I've not seen in some time, Lewis Stadlen, will be at Ron's, and I hope to hear news about the reading of HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS . . . with Daniel Radcliffe, sicne Lewis was in the cast, and I wish the production much good. I love Jo Loesser and, after GUYS & DOLLS, I'd like to see something good happen to a Loesser show.

As to dinner, well, any meal on West 43rd Street is a treat and I know the company, including our DR Julie, will once again bt sterling and sparkling, as I expect no less from our illustrious hosts.

So, before I giftwrap mysef into a frenzy, here's the TOD:

DVD: A Chritsmas Carol (ballet), A Christmas Carol (Patrick Stewart), A Christmas Carol (George C. Scott), A Christmas Carol (Alastair Sim), The Ref
CD:  Christmas Mornings, a lot of holiday albums, Liz Callaway, Guy Haines
VCR: smut and filth

My dog, Missy, kept wanting to go out into the back yard late last night and look around.

Maybe she heard sleigh bells?

Then, this morning, she woke me up very early, like a kid wanting to open presents under a tree.

[We don't have a tree.]

I said to her, "Missy, Santa doesn't come here.  We're Jewish....Besides, didn't you get enough latkes for Chanukah?"

It's raining elves and reindeer here today.

We may have a road closing between ponds before too long.

Good morning and Merry Christmas!

It was pouring rain when I got up this morning, so no walk for me. It's supposed to rain all morning and afternoon, so even if I wasn't working, I'd be inside today due to the weather. It's cold, too, though it's going to get even colder over the weekend.

I'm guessing JRand and Cillaliz and Dakota Celt are having a VERY white Christmas.

Ginny, too?

And our NYC (and environs) crew?

Wear layers.  Ladies, get those Cuddle Duds out.  Gents, bring out the galoshes.

Meantime, does anyone know where I might find some gopherwood on Christmas Day?

No, DR Ron, no snow here in SW Ohio.  It's raining now and the temp is in the mid 40's.  Considering that my son and his girlfriend are driving from Michigan, I  hope it stays that way.  Maybe they'll bring us some snow from up north!
