I don't think I will ever like THE SHINING because it tells me that the director neither knows what constitutes good horror in literature or film and looks down on the category My favorite King adaptation is CARRIE, which I think is an improvement over the novel.

Back from a sandwich and fries and shall now perhaps try to finish the prologue of the new book.

Probably a Minority Opinion but I thought AVATAR was just OK. It's a beautiful film,no doubt, but the beauty became boring. It had alot of action but the action eventually became boring, And The Movie is way too long. There aren't too many Movies that I can say this about-but I don't think I could ever see this movie a second time.

I have never seen a Stephen King movie, as I do not like horror movies at all.

I had my washer and dryer running almost all day yesterday, doing my own regular laundry and also things like sheets, furniture slip covers and small area rugs.  I have enough lint to make a...um..a big thing of lint! (And it would be big, I can tell you that!)

I had a great lunch with DR Laura, DR Sandra and DS Jeremy today.

That is not all.

I watched "Julie and Julia" last night.  My, what a lovely and affectionate film it is.

Thank you for the movie report.  i've read similar complaints that it is too long.

i believe we are in the minority with our opinion of "500 days of summer"  after all the hype we were very disappointed.  we love charming quirky films and felt, for the most part, this missed the boat.

julie & julia is another film that didn't meet our expectations.  the julia parts did, the rest of the film was ok.

Just wanted to remind folks that starting tonight, we're back on a modified schedule of some new episodes each night. Not every show will be back at full force yet, but keep eyes on cable guides and TV listings in case your favorite programs are back up with new episodes this week.

For me, BROTHERS & SISTERS has a new episode tonight.

And DESPEREATE HOUSEWIVES.  I am actually anxious to see this after how it ended before the break.

The internets have been inoperative here for most of the past 24 hours.  Yikes!

We saw AVATAR yesterday.  This was my first experience with "Real D" and I was so happy it didn't bother me or give me a bad headache like the older red/blue glasses always did.  I did have just a very slight headache afterward, but nothing horrible.  (Betsy had a really bad one, on the other hand, but she's not sure it was due to the glasses).

I also thought the film could have been trimmed by at least 15 minutes, and I guessed the ending probably an hour before we got to it, but otherwise I thought it was quite a spectacular achievement.  The one thing that made me laugh repeatedly was how James Horner ripped off the first two notes/harmonies of the second 8 of "My Heart Will Go On", ultimately resolving it so that phrase was v, IV, I (rather than i, bVII, bVI).  Betsy and I both commented afterward it was a lot like "Dances With Wolves," which evidently echoes what Ebert said.

I've written eight pages today, which is probably enough, but I may do a couple more later.  I'm about five pages away from the end of the prologue, and if muse Margaret thinks it should be shorter, I have two specific places to trim.

Good Evening!

Well... I guess I am not leaving my parents' house today.  However, I have had some very nice naps over the past couple of hours.

I got a strange e-mail from someone I didn't know who was claiming to be a friend of the brother of one of my best friends.  I had a bad feeling when I read it, so I quickly called my friend.  She called me back about a half hour later.  Her brother died, apparently on New Year's Day and laid in his apartment for two days before he was found.  He lived in Kansas City, Missouri.  She has no idea how she can afford to pay to have his body sent back here.  She has no money, nor did he, but the one thing he didn't want was to be buried in Missouri.

As for "Avatar"... I have yet to see it - and I do want to see it - but I have gotten a kick out of the folks who have called it "Ferngully 2".  ;)

We just finished watching 500 DAYS OF SUMMER.  We enjoyed it.  It was different, not quite what we expected.

When Clark Gregg read the "Roses are red" greeting card, I must admit that I laughed so hard that we had to pause the movie for 5 minutes.

What can I say?

I remember an issue of "Better Homes & Gardens" - or it might have been "Family Circle" (back when both magazines were not so dumbed-down like they are today - that described how to make your own felt panels from dryer lint.  -Since, apparently, felt is basically compressed lint.  They even encouraged people to ask laundromats for lint from their dryers.  Alas, now that I think of it, lint isn't usually the only thing you find in the lint traps, so... ::)
