The Jonathan Reid Gealt concert went really well tonight. I don't know how large the crowd was but I would guess over 100 were there. The roster of singers was excellent and the band was quite solid. I've met a wonderful new drummer and keyboard man, and I knew Kirk the bass player and Summer, our cellist, subbed on FINIAN'S RAINBOW. She's quite amazing. It was great to see the wonderful Lauren Kennedy again; she was the only singer I knew. Everyone else was a friend, colleague, or former Boston Conservatory classmate of Jonathan and they were all quite good.
I particularly liked Bridie Carroll and Kasey Marino, and i want to find projects to involve them. After hearing Bridie, I told her that if Steve Sondheim had heard her in 1970, he would have written "Another Hundred People" for her. She's funny with a great range, and Kasey is the perfect juvenile baritone.
