Of course Edna May Oliver as Pross and Lucille LaVerne as Madame DeFarge are sorely missed.

DR JOSE I watched THE AUDITION on PBS last week, most interesting and enjoyable, but of course it made me as nervous as if I were auditioning!

I remember those auditions.  However, I did not know about the "one year later" post-script...

Good morning!

We had a very hard freeze last night (15 degrees), and so all the sleet and snow is hard as a brick, and with the temperature only climbing to 32 today, there isn't much chance of stuff melting.

Obviously, I didn't take my walk this morning. The ground is completely covered with ice and hardened snow, and I didn't want to risk any accidents. So I'm treadmilling it today and tomorrow, most likely.

Indeed it would, DR MATTH.

Have you read John Fraser's book about his encounter with Mr Bogarde?

I have six more episodes of BARNABY JONES today, and it's impossible to get them all watched this afternoon, so this will definitely spill into tonight's work hours. If there is time left, I'll decide what I might be able to fit in the time span. I have more Jolson from the Warner Archives, those Universal DVD-Rs that came on Friday, and THE BOURNE IDENTITY on Blu-ray that I'm anxious to tackle.

I saw that list of Deanna Durbin movies that are being contemplated for inclusion in the Universal DVD-R program. I was disappointed as the focus was clearly on her films of the 1930s when she was a child/slightly older version of SHirley Temple's Miss Fix-It. The only two of her adult roles being considered were HERS TO HOLD and her last film FOR THE LOVE OF MARY. Very disappointing! I wanted anything from NICE GIRL? onward including my favorite HIS BUTLER'S SISTER.

The Deanna Durbin Sweetheart collection has some good titles...including First Love (my favorite), Lady on a Train, Something in the Wind, It Started With Eve, Can't Help Singing, and Three Smart Girls.  It's one of my favorite DVD releases!

Mr Fraser and his partner visited Mr Bogarde and his partner in their London home.  Mr Bogarde asked Mr Fraser if he would like to see something interesting, and of course John said yes, thinking it might be "interesting."  They went to the top floor of the house.  There were HUGE posters of all of Mr Bogarde's movies on the walls and ceilings.  As he talked, Mr Bogarde changed his clothes into leather from head to toe, then he uncovered a motorcycle that he had installed on some type of treadmill, and proceeded to "drive" it loudly for several minutes.....telling Fraser that that was his true personality and that having the motorcycle was his only release from the "nice" guy parts he was stuck playing.....Mr Fraser excused himself, disappointed and intrigued all at the same time.

John Fraser's book was recommended here on HHW many years ago, I am sorry that I forget who mentioned it first, but it is a most entertaining book.

I liked Mr Fraser in such movies as EL CID and WALTZ OF THE TOREADORS.

I did, I believe. I like Mr Fraser in A STUDY IN TERROR. Doesn't he end up beling Jack the Ripper? My real memory of the movie is how wonderful Robert Morley is as Mycroft Holmes.

Here's my Library of Congress friend Loras, a Sousa conductor and specialist. Loras' knowledge of 19th and early 20th century American popular music has been a great help in my research. Now, if he'd only answer his phone!

Yes, I have it, and thank goodness for it! Certainly it concentrates on the adult phase of her career, and I'm sure those who like her as a child soprano will be happy for the (potential) new releases, but I much prefer her voice once it matures.

Guess I'll head down now and get laundry ready to wash. Then, I'll think about what's for lunch.
