Our computer has been acting wonky so I am biting the bullet (no easy feat) and doing the Carbonite thing.

Hello, everyone.

Today was Errand Day. Believe me, there is NO recession at the local Target. If you have shopping to do there you best get there early. I had lots of other stops on my list, too.

At first it was kinda fun setting up the new apartment and shopping for furniture and housewares. I've since grown rather tired of it and am anxious to get back to work.

I bought the DVD 2-Disc Version of THE MUMMY RETURNS.....I have THE MUMMY and THE MUMMY TOMB OF THE EMPEROR.....now I have all three....it was $5 at WalMart.....so after Prime Time, as the snow begins, I may have a MUMMY Marathon.  You really can't have too much Brendan Fraser, I always say.

LOL...DR JANE....I clicked on the wrong file the first time.....now all is well....and Mr James Byron Dean as one of the Fairmont Quakers graces my post.

I guess I missed out on the better James Dean photo.

Back from my busy day.  Casting session was fine - we now have our young leading man.  The authors wanted to "put him through his paces" even though I told them this was the guy four months ago.  Now they agree - what else is new?  Had a nice visit with my brother, then rushed to the mail place, the bank, then for a sandwich, and am now awaiting the arrival of Mr. Handy Man.  The gas company was here and lit the pilot light  and said that it looked like the rains had flooded the machine and that we should put it on a platform (it sits basically on the ground with a metal cabinet around it).  However, I'd also called my handy man because I thought he might get here earlier than the gas company.  It turns out by the time he got here the pilot light was already out.  He said the whole water heater was kaput and so I told him to go buy a new one (I'll be reimbursed).  He should be here shortly to hook it all up and install a platform for the heater to sit on.  And then it's right in the shower for me.

Maybe someone can explain to me why February 21, 2008 is so interesting, because every time I check to see what our GUESTS are doing, one of them is perusing that topic.  EVERY time.

Someone take a look at it and see if anything pops out at you - it's called For The Hail Of It.

My pleasure.  Someone had mentioned it here before (I think), but I remember seeing commercials for it.

And now...

Since my flight leaves at a little before 8:00 tomorrow morning, I want to get my carry-on packed tonight, as well as take care of some emails and other business before heading back downstairs for the now-annual Closing Day of UPTA's Steak Dinner.  :)

-Although, I'd really like a nap right now too, but...  -Again, I blame the Canadian Cowboy. ;)

Going round and round in my head:

Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night
Every gal in Constantinople
Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople
So if you've a date in Constantinople
She'll be waiting in Istanbul
Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way
So take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks
Istanbul (Istanbul)
Istanbul (Istanbul)

Oof.

It was a very exciting day: Matthew's birthday, the creature from the black lagoon died, and DerBrucer had a cat.

DR JOSE - did the Canadian cowboy have ulterior motives?

Alas, the Canadian Cowboy - Eric - did not have any ulterior motives.  He was just fascinated by everything and everyone going on around him. -And we were all fascinated by his line of work too.  He apparently has one of the largest hog farms in all of Canada, and he also shows "cutting" (I think that's the term he used) horses - which is why he was in Memphis the past couple of days.  The more we conversed, the more drinks he bought for everyone.  He was dressed in full cowboy attired: boots, jeans, belt with a big buckle, Western shirt, and a ten-gallon hat with a silver medallion.  So, when he said he was from Canada, we all went, "Wha?!?" ;)

It was something to do after watching the Superbowl on the large screen TV in the bar area.

*Oh, and he had a great smile and some big blue eyes too. ::)

DR JOSE - Did anyone sing Ciribiribin yet?  I am still waiting for that brave person to show up for you.

DR JRand - Still no sign of "Ciribiribin".  However, we did have someone who sang quite an interesting rendition of Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up".

Jose - I'm also very eagerly awaiting your list of songs that the young performers are auditioning with

Well, as I mentioned earlier, it was an almost-repeat-free series of auditions over the past four days.  The woman's songs from Millie - "Not For the Life of Me", "Gimme, Gimme" and "Forget About the Boy" - each only made one appearance this time around.  However, "What Do I Need With Love?" seemed to make a comeback in the Men's auditions books.

In fact, it was the men who seemed to be in "Greatest Hits" mode:
"Run, Freedom Run" from Urinetown
"Extraordinary" from Pippin
"Mama Says" from Footloose
-I probably played/heard each of those songs at least three times each day - with "Mama Says" getting more airplay than any other song.

I did play "I'm Alive" from Next To Normal twice.  I was actually expecting that one to be a bit more popular since the vocal selections just came out.

For the women, the only real repeats were "Always True To You In My Own Fashion" from Kiss Me, Kate and "Come To Your Senses" from Tick... Tick... Boom!.

*Sadly, the one trend that seems to keep building is the use of songs by today's "Young Musical Theatre Writers" by the Women.  Basically, all belt all the time.  -At least in the cuts that people selected.  I don't dislike those songs, but they most definitely have more of a pop and cabaret sensibility to them as opposed to something theatrical.  Additionally, most of the women - and men - tend to mimic the original performers renditions - sometimes down to the vocal placement and vowels.  -Yep, Idina Menzel recorded that song.
