I had a good time at the fundraiser tonight, but came home to a power outage. Apparently there are 1500 homes without power and I'm one of them. I called the hotline and it predicts it will be on by 11:00. Hope so, it's getting cold in here

DR TCB - Hopefully, this third "strike" will mean the MRSA is on it's way out.  ~~~~~~

DR JMK - Yep, Sarah and Jimmy parted company a while ago.

*However, those "Matt Damon" and "Ben Affleck" videos are still funny.  Very funny. ;D

Personally I like RuPaul's UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN better than his FUNNY GIRL.

You obviously missed his/her definitive portrayal of Vera Charles in the Mame revival opposite Harvey Fierstein.

DR Jennifer - 1) They are coaches, not competitors.

2) Even though the skaters may be representing a particular country, they are, for all intents and purposes, skating for themselves.

3) If you want to talk "overlap", you should check out the finals of some piano competitions. Many times you'll find students from the same studio competing against each other.  A good teacher is a good teacher.  A good coach is a good coach.

DR MattH - I'm glad you were able to track down the "skates".

*To complicate(?) matters here in NYC, since WNBC is the main affiliate for NBC, they are producing some of their own "local" features... Some for broadcast on WNBC... Some for broadcast on their cable channel.

And just in case anyone was wondering....

The "Happy Hot Chocolate" at City Bakery was indeed very happy.  Happy = Milk Chocolate and Vanilla Bean.  Tomorrow is "Sunken Treasure" Hot Chocolate.  Hmmm....

This afternoon's filming was fun. Nice bunch of kids.

We filmed scenes in two different alleys in downtown Salem. I had never spent much time in our fair city's alleys, and had no idea that there was so much foot traffic in and out of there....some quite bizarre.

When I got to the location they were finishing up some shots of one of the actors. He left, and then I and a guy named Sean filmed our scene. It only took about an hour and a half and we finished up just in time, as we were loosing the natural light.

The experience was lots of fun, although I can't say that I really understood the script. They did forget to bring one of the props, a newspaper, so someone had to go out in search of a Wall Street Journal, which I am supposed to be looking at in my scene. I had to pay for it, as nobody had any quarters for the machine, except me. I think I should now be given "producer" credit.

In other news...

I went to the ballet tonight. It was an "All Balanchine" program at The New York City Ballet - Brahms' "Liebeslieder Waltzes" and Tschaikovsky's "Piano Concerto, No. 2".  Truth be told, I went more for the music rather than the dancing since both scores are piano-centric - the Brahms being scored for piano duet with a vocal quartet, and the Tschaikovsky featuring quite a substantial solo part.  I did enjoy the dancing, but the one thing that fascinated - and preoccupied(?) - for most of the evening was the extra "responsibility" of playing a piano solo with and for dancers.  A good chunk of the featured sections in the Tschaikovsky were choreographed to the various cadenzas in the piece.  Normally, piano cadenzas are played a piacere, at the soloist's pleasure and pacing.  I can't imagine having to coordinate a cascade of octaves and bursts of intricate finger work to dancers' bodies.

And then I dropped by my friend's birthday party at the Tiki lounge to wish her well and drop off a little trinket for her.  Alas, I decided not to stay since I could tell that my body was telling me not to stay out late tonight.  Rest is good.  Sleep is good.  -But I did have a good time while I was there.

Oh... This is "old" news by now, but I don't think it has been mentioned yet here on HHW...

The current revival of South Pacific will be closing this summer, August 22. The new John Guare play will be moving into the Beaumont next spring.

AND...

Lincoln Center Theater's next musical presentation will be an adaptation of Pedro Almadovar's "Women On the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown" with music and lyrics by David Yazbeck (The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels).  The "Women" will take up residence at the Belasco this fall under the direction of Bartlett Sher.

Lincoln Center's New Season Is Women on the Verge, A Free Man of Color and War Horse
