Well, you've read the notes, the notes were alive, but alive, and now it is time for you to post until the twitchy and bitchy and MOOnic cows come home.

As promised, here's the new Kritzerland release for your early mental delectation.  You know the deal - pay directly to paypal using our paypal address, which is kritzerland at adelphia dot net.  It's 19.98 plus 3.75 for shipping.  This one won't be around long.

“WE ARE NOT LITTLE MEN”

Kritzerland is very proud to present a new limited edition CD soundtrack release:

THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING
Music Composed and Conducted by Maurice Jarre

John Huston’s 1975 film of Rudyard Kipling’s The Man Who Would Be King was a project he’d been longing to do for twenty years.  And watching the film you can see why – it’s a brilliant, ripping adventure yarn about larger-than-life men doing larger-than-life things.  It’s one of those films where everything just came together in perfect symmetry.  It was a project Huston was born to direct, he had two extraordinary stars in Sean Connery and Michael Caine, a great cameraman in Oswald Morris, perfect costume design by the legendary Edith Head, and the brilliant production design of the great Alexander Trauner.  And certainly right up there with all those extraordinary artists was the composer Maurice Jarre, who provided the film with a wonderful score, one of his best, despite the score’s brevity.

Maurice Jarre and Huston had already done The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean and The Mackintosh Man together.  Jarre had, by that time, become legendary for his Academy Award-winning scores for two David Lean masterpieces, Lawrence Of Arabia and Dr. Zhivago as well as his classic scores for The Collector, Eyes Without A Face, Sundays and Cybele, Ryan’s Daughter and A Passage To India (also for David Lean), Grand Prix, The Professionals, Resurrection, Shogun, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Fatal Attraction, Dead Poet’s Society, Witness, and Ghost, among many others.  In The Man Who Would Be King Jarre delivered exactly the score Huston wanted – understated yet filled with majesty and wonderful orchestral textures.  The score is played by the National Philharmonic, along with several of the then-greatest Indian musicians.  It is robust, exotic, moving and one of Jarre’s finest achievements in a career filled with fine achievements.

The Man Who Would Be King was originally released on a Capitol LP.  Its first CD release was on Bay Cites back in the early 1990s.  That release went out of print in 1993 and immediately became a pricey collector’s item.  Since Kritzerland had its genesis in Bay Cities, it is particularly gratifying to be able to bring back The Man Who Would Be King to CD on Kritzerland.    The CD has been completely and lovingly remastered, fixing several problems inherent in the original release.

This release is limited to 1000 copies only.  The price is $19.98 plus shipping.

CD will ship by the second week of April – however, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks earlier (we’ve been averaging four weeks early).   To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

Popping in early to make a comment about the discussion of male body hair last night.

I agree completely (have said so here several times).

MOST disturbing to me is the elimination of all body hair, not just on the chest but on the arms and legs, too, which looks completely and totally unnatural.

I mean, I have next to no hair on my chest (much to my regret since I've always found it alluring), but my arms and legs have a natural amount of hair, and I can't imagine any reason why I'd ever find it necessary to shave them.

OK, I'll be back later to read today's notes and comment on the usual Friday activities. I woke up an hour and a half early this morning, could not go back to sleep, and just got up to start the day. Now, it's not even 7:30, and I have an entire morning on my hands.

Wooooooooooohooooooooooooooo.....I have ordered the new Kritzerland release!  I love the movie - and having Michael and Sean together in an adventure film was so great!!!

THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING!  And I think Michael Caine met his wife Shakira while filming this movie, if I remember correctly.

My last official act before leaving for my stress test was to order the CD.

At one time, Maurice Jarre was a publicity client.

I love Jarre's score for GRAND PRIX.....bought the gatefold album for fifty cents way last century.....

I also bought the PRIVILEGE soundtrack....it was only a quarter....mint still sealed.  I like the music more than I like the movie, but it is an interesting and prescient piece of work....I like the lead guy and some of the dolly birds around him....and THE MUSIC!

Good morning!

As I mentioned, I've been up quite a long time and am not happy about it. Since I don't walk on Fridays, it's my one morning to sleep as late as I want, and what happens? I get out of bed at 5:30 completely awake knowing there will be no more sleep until tonight.

For four days this week, our newspaper's online weather page listed the weather as sunny with the low as 51 and the high of 71 with the current temperature being 49.  Yes, apparently it has been 49 degrees 24 hours a day for the last week.  It felt warmer than that to me in the afternoons.   Was it the warm sun, or was I having hot flashes?   :-[ :P ::) :D

I guess A PASSAGE TO INDIA is my favorite Jarrre score, but he certainly has scored some of the greats of cinema: an amazing body of work.

I am looking forward to watching THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG on Blu-ray this afternoon. And, as usual with Disney animated films, there look to be a ton of bonus features, so I'll be busy with this for much of today.

Fox and the CW seem to be taking the night off in terms of new shows, but CBS comes to the rescue with new episodes of MEDIUM, GHOST WHISPERER, and NUMB3RS.

I also love the movie of THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING very much. I thought I had read it was coming to Blu-ray, but maybe that was just wishful thinking on my part.

Well as for last night's PWOJECT WUNWAY.....not a team challenge which I don't like at all....but an unusual materials challenge.

Some of them turned out surprisingly well, and then winner was quite good.  However when it got down to the bottom two, I would have sent the other contestant home.....although I guess track record is also a factor for the judges.  One of the guest judges was an idiot.

With so much time on my hands this morning, I might be able to watch this before heading out to the grocery store and bank, my usual Friday errands. I need to stop by the post office, too.

Friday morning greetings!  I have delivered Fr. Richard to the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for his all-day computer training and now have a couple of hours to get myself ready before checking out of the hotel.

Vibes to DR Druxy for this morning's test!
