I just read this:

Why weren't Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arthur included in the "In Memoriam" package on Sunday's Oscars telecast?

Academy spokesperson Penny Melidonian pointed out that both actresses were better known for television. "We cannot include everyone," she said.

I didn't watch the Oscars, but I bet Michael Jackson was included and he made fewer films than Farrah or Bea Arthur.

One more comment re: something DRs MattH and TCB said last night about Tom Hanks just saying the winner for Best Picture (and not listing them).

Here is my point. I watched the entire show. But if you asked me to list you right now the entire 10 nominated movies. Well I couldn't do it.

DR Jennifer - You mean you didn't print out your own Oscar ballot? ;)

Seriously... Even though there were 10 films nominated this year, there were really only 3 true contenders for the top honor of the evening. People had their favorites, and if it turned out that their favorite was not the one that Tom Hanks read aloud at the end, well... That's really all that matters.

*And even though I only caught the last 45 minutes of the broadcast, I could still name at least seven of the ten nominated films right off the top of my head.  It's all part of the "prep" before Oscar night.

**And I'm sure that if they had read the names of all ten Best Picture nominees, by the time the winner was read, I - (and probably you - ?) - would not be able to rattle off all ten without having to consult some sort of written list.  The "joys" of short-term memory.

I read this article (not too spoilerish) but did not click on the 13 clues link in it (i could tell it was gonna be very spoilerish).

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And the oatmeal has been consumed, the coffee has been brewed and is currently being sipped, and another load of laundry is in the washer.  Sounds like a full day to me! ;)

Sounds like my morning.

Do you get to spend the afternoon with a printer salesman, too?

I believe that only happens in one of DR elmore's VCR movies.

DR Jennifer - The other links aren't that "spoilerish" either.  There's simply no way the producers and writers would leak any real information about the final episodes.  Additionally, most of those links link to previous articles about "Lost" on that site, TVGuide.com and other TV sites.  So, if you've been keeping up with Things "Lost" on the web, there's really no new information.

The fact of the matter is, however, that you saw the show and the ten nominees, and you know the winner. That's ALL that's important. If you want to know what the other nine nominees were, there are PLENTY of places you can go to for that information after the fact.

Good morning!

It was 38 degrees this morning, and I wore a light jacket over my sweatshirt (which I probably didn't need to do). The walk was more exhausting this morning; I'm not sure why that was so. Anyway, it's definitely warming up here.

As I mentioned Sunday night, Michael Jackson didn't have a great movie career, but he did have a hit film out last year that garnered a worldwide audience.

My work project for today is DILLINGER IS DEAD from Italy via a Criterion DVD. The liner notes make it sound very weird, and I'm wary about its content. Hopefully, it'll be a nice surprise and a hidden treasure.

Not only were Farah Fawcett and Bea Arthur excluded in the Oscar memorial but what about Harve Presnell, Arnold Stang, and Edward Woodward, among others?

BK, very BIG package day?

Going to finish up some computer trifles before heading downstairs and catching up with some shows recorded from last night's prime time lineup.

Last night, BK wrote:

"I had an interesting call from a producer in NY who will be doing sort of an off-Broadway version of Encores for off-B'way musicals.  First up is Promenade.  He wanted to know about recording the series, so I gave him some information and he asked me if he could use Kritzerland's name in his press release and I said sure - no harm, really."

Bruce - this immediately reminded me of something that I remembered being publicly announced a couple years ago, but then I hadn't heard any more about it.

I looked up my notes from the time and found this -- does this sound like the same project / people?  What made me think of it was your reference to Promenade.

Quote
NYTW Plans to Produce Off-Broadway Musical Revival Concert Series

James C. Nicola, artistic director of the New York Theater Workshop, has announced plans to present a series of concerts of previously produced Off-Broadway musicals.

Similar to the City Center Encores! series — which offers great American musicals in concert form — the plan is to produce three shows per season, starting next fall, in low-tech (no set) concert versions.

"We could go for decades and never run out of interesting things, particularly if you're not too terribly rigid about defining Off-Broadway," Nicola told The New York Times.

Al Carmines and Maria Irene Fornes' Promenade (1969) as well as Doug Dyer, Gretchen Cryer and Peter Link's Iphigenia in Concert (1971) have been mentioned as titles to launch the series.

Works by Nancy Ford and the team of Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt are also being considered. The Times reports Doug Wright, Michael Greif and James Lapine have expressed interest in participating in the new series.

"I'm also hoping it would be a breeding ground for revised versions of things that maybe in the moment didn't find their final form," added Nicola.

Yep, sounds exactly the same, save for the name of the producer who called me - so maybe the guy who called me has joined this other chap.

I'm up and hopefully CDs will be here bright and early.  I have some orders here that are overdue for shipping because the online dealers sometimes neglect to put the title of the CD in the invoice and everything just gets really confusing.  In fact, I'm thinking of letting go some of these dealers who only order under ten copies.

I just got a box o' books from Chicken Soup for the Soul - "Thanks, Mom" is hitting the bookstores on March 23, for Mothers' Day sales... and I have a story in there!!! Got a couple of author events in Idaho next week, and one the actual week of Mothers' Day, up in La Canada - pronounced Lah Can-yah-dah - near LA...

AND!!! just got a commission for the book of a (vanity) musical. Guy wants it written around his specific philosophy, with excerpts from his actual life... hey, I can do that!!! He'll pay me half in advance, this week. If the check clears, scribble scribble scribble!!!

What else? Oh, the weather outside's delightful!! And there are hummingbirds in the little garden I made on my friend's balcony. Life is FINE!!!
